Well, after hearing Chris Scruggs talk about Johnny's playing with Carl Smith I decided I should check him out. A friend happened to have this box set, Satisfaction Guaranteed. WOW! Not only are the songs killer but the sound quality is amazing. The material sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Good stuff!! _________________ Brian |

I think Johnny is one of the most under-rated players we've got in our community. He and Don Davis along with Roy Wiggins were three of the most prominant steel players in the country; their playing style was so easily recognizeable and their playing attributes were unequaled in that day/time.
While Noel Boggs, Speedy West and Joaquin Murphy were highly recognized on the west coast....I don't believe any of them were as familiar to steel guitar fans. |

I agree, Ray. Johnny Sibert rarely gets mentioned in the same breath as the West Coast players, but his playing on all those Carl Smith sides is a thing of beauty, so clean and economical and with such beautiful tone. You're right, Brian, the production is great on those records, too. And oh, what a voice! |
