Somehow, someone performed an awful mod on this guitar. They did not come with wooden fingerboards, but instead had frets that resembled a scalloped board, only it was the aluminum itself. I would stay away from that one. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Plenty of people don't like the original aluminum fretboards, and this might be a winner for some of them. It look's OK otherwise, and it's got the original knob and brass badge, which are often gone. I'd have little problem jumping on it if I was jonesing for a 6 str. again, and didn't have anything better to dump 2G's on.

dont understand why they wouldnt just paint the "fretboard" black instead of shaving/leveling the neck and adding a fretted board. makes it a little suspicious. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |

Maybe you havn't known anybody to massacre a frypan's fretboard. I have, and it ain't pretty. No telling what happened, maybe the deed needed to be done. |

Looks to me like the added fretboard may have been an attempt to set up the guitar for Spanish style playing, although the high nut precludes that... hard to say who did what and why, 75 years ago, grin. Nice to see the original case! _________________ A big THANKS to all my friends, here and everywhere ! |

I've re-done six frypans that have been violated in one way or another. Most had holes drilled them, for legs (?) or brackets of some sort. My 7-string had a piece removed from the top for some strange reason.
We have to remember that these guitars were not coveted in the old days, like they are now, and it was not a big deal to hack them up.
Hard to tell if the frets on that one have been removed, or just a fretboard glued on top of them...
The latest post-war frypans, the solid neck type, had a black fretboard, as shown in the Rick catalog. Kinda strange...... |

i think Pete is right on this one - that would make sense regarding the trouble of installing an actual fretted board. looks like they had to build up the fretboard to make it match up with the bridge or the action would be to high for spanish playing.
i bet at one time a low nut was on there - maybe the org was in the case and they just swapped.
this isnt a basket case by any stretch, but i cant believe they are asking $2k for it. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |

The 12th fret does not seem to be in the middle? _________________ 1977 Sho~Bud D10 ProIII Custom; Sho~Bud SD10 The Professional ; ETS S10 5x5;
