I stupidly plugged my 110 v. power source for the RV-3 into a 220v outlet here in China. Did I fry the RV-3 or just the power source itself? The light on the RV-3 will not come on and the pedal is not working.
If the RV-3 has been fried, what needs to be done to repair it if possible? How would I check the circuit in the unit?
Thanks in advance, stevet |

Try it with a 9 volt battery. |

Thanks, Mike, I appreciate the helpful suggestion, but for some reason this RV-3 never worked with the 9 volt battery, which is why I went with a transformer, but i will try the battery again. Could never figure out why the battery could not kick-start it. stevet |

Steve, I picked up a used CS-3 a while back that I eventually modded with one of Monte Allums double chip kits. I don't think the battery box had ever been opened, but the pedal wouldn't work with a battery. I figured out that I could twist the wiring just right, and it would work. I replaced the battery wiring when I had the pedal open, and it works fine now.
Maybe your battery connection has a similar problem? |

Steve, if you send it into BOSS they will fix whatever is wrong with it. It will cost you but the job will be done right. |

Steve,
Open it up and take a look. I had a Boss pedal that wouldn't work with a battery, and I found one of the wires had a broken solder joint. I had one pedal that I plugged the wrong wall wart into. Tip/ring reversed. It blew up the pedal, but it was just one diode that sorta acted like a fuse.

If you have access to a multimeter, check the output of the power supply.
I bet you have 0V instead of 18.
I'd bet the wallwart is toast.
I second the voices saying try it with battery _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

The wall-wart has probably got an open-circuit transformer, in the primary would be my first suspicion. It's had it, but the pedal may still be fine. If possible try another wall plug-pack set up for the right voltage in and out! _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. Gus, Thanks, for your input; I forgot to answer this months ago. The wallwart was indeed fried but the pedal was good. I bought a 1 SPOT wallwart which is 110v to 240 v so I should be OK now if I use it with my pedals. stevet |

Hey Steve, most of these pedals have a switch installed on the wal wart plug pin, when you push the plug in it disconnects the battery. These are known to hang up and not make battery connection. |
