I'm looking for a guitar along the lines of an old Gibson ES-125. I only have $600 to spend, and I know that good condition ones are valued at much more, so I'm looking for something beat up, repaired, etc. Thanks!

Not looking for anything fancy-cracks? refinished? missing parts?

John, As a suggestion, you might try one of the Epiphone "equivilent" models. I owned a Broadway and it was first class. New for around $800.00 and who knows on a used one.

Thanks Jim. I am looking at some of those, especially the Joe Pass, which has the 24 3/4" scale, like the old 125's. The Broadway and Emperor Regent models have the longer scale, which is tough with my arthritis.
I just like old, worn guitars, so I thought I'd see what was available.

John, Growing up, my dad had a Gibson ES125 and I learned to play on it. It was the plainest of the Gibsons, but nice to play. The single p90 humbucker had plenty of power. One day I left the chord in it and propted it up against the amp and walked into the chord and jerked the guitar down. It snapped off the head stock and I was shocked. I managed to fix it with glue and a brace, but it looked awful. I later sold it.

Here of late I've discovered the Samick archtop guitars. They are the best bang for the buck out there.
I just picked this one up for $400.00

Erv-Nice looking guitar. I have figured out that I'm a single coil kinda guy.
Jim-Now you're just toying with me!

I've got a '52 ES125 that I've been prepping for sale. Replaced truss rod. Finish partially repaired. Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 pickup. Original pots. Replacement pickguard. The nice Kluson style single gears instead of plate. The case is trash but usable for shipping inside a box. I was going to start the bidding at about $600.
