Hope that I am not putting the cart before the horse but curious. I have a Melbert Pro 6 string tuned to C6th that I am learning to play and having a ball as the songs are starting to be recognizable rather than sounding like I'm torturing a cat. Anyway I really do not want to change the tuning on my Melbert but thinking it would be nice to have a second guitar in another tuning. Guess my first question is what other tuning is simple and easy to learn for a beginner. 2nd question is should I consider an 8 string as the second guitar or would that be bitting off to much at once? Appreciate any thoughts.

E13 8-string Smile

There's no real point in having a C6 AND an A6 as both tunings have an identical intervallic structure.

I have been lucky enough to find an 8 string lap from a fellow forum member and he tells me that the strings are in need of replacement. I think that I want to tune it to probably an E13th as my 6 string is tuned to C6th and I want two different tunings. Having a hard time finding a set of strings that state that they are for an 8 string lap and for E13th tuning. If I buy a 10 string set do I just eliminate the the top and bottom string? If not than what strings do I use? Or what gauges do I need for this tuning? I am a newbie and so if this sounds like a dumb question that is why.

Thomas, if you haven't already, click the STRINGS link at the top of the page. Follow the links to 8-String Steel Guitar and there is an E13 set there that might work for you. Buying strings from b0b helps to support the Forum. HTH.
