I thought everybody said you couldn't add KLs to these things. Always doubted it was true, though. Nice looking guitar.

Gary, yes the changer was replaced with a "STAGE ONE" Changer ,Cross Shafts ,Brackets and Rods making it a Stage one Mechanically in a Sho- Bud outer Shell.. hence the term "Power Plant". it seems to be working just fine and is going to be a neat gig guitar when it settles in. Thanks To all the folks that had a nice word about our efforts..

This Guitar was built for fun ONLY!! This work is not For hire!. Doug has his hands full filling the regular Orders for The Stage One. He does a wonderful job on every guitar he sends out. Doug is the real deal and a nice fella. So im asking to give Him a break and not try and order your next maverick mod from him. (Just Kidding Doug Smile )

thanks again for the comments

It was kind of a fun project! Of course any time you get to hang around with Boo it's fun. It sounds great too. We got the new Grover Sta-Tite 18:1 keys to put on it today.

wow guys,
I must say that I am thoroughly(Sp?) impressed with not only the work, but the Idea itself. You get a classic piece of wood with the modernality of the greatly praized stage one changer. She's no longer a starter guitar. Makes me wish I wouldn't have sold my maverick. Of course Im sure its not easy to come across a stage one changer lying around. Please explain the troubles you had (if MANY) while doing the POWER PLANT. Are the results something that would encourage you to do it again given the opportunity?
thanks
Jeff Metz Jr

It really wasn't all that difficult in the big scheme of things.
The Stage One changer was the right width. The opening in the neck for the changer had to be modified just a bit, but a quick trip over to the milling machine made short work of that. The Stage One changer supports were shortened in height about .050" and everything fit like a glove.
The ShoBud endplate stops worked fine, but the mounting plate for them had to be thinned down a bit. The window in the endplate had to be enlarged to access the nylon tuners.
We then made an aluminum bar to fasten to the inside of the back of the body to have a place to mount the knee lever stops. That's about all there was to it.
We can only use four of the holes in the changer finger, but it's enough to get the job done.

Doesn't a Maverick have Perm fingers?
I'd just swap out the coat hanger rods...

There has never been a guitar made that you can't add knee levers to, and a good tech can put a lever anywhere you want it.

A Maverick has the same fingers as a Perm, and Jin Loessberg has a loaded one. The rest of the pull train in a Maverick makes it difficult, but its limitations can be overcome.

Mavericks through the years just had whatever the finger de jour was for the pro models, but without the scissor mechanism. Most of the later shelf paper models had just the standard later-70s pot metal fingers. The coat hanger rods attach to the standard raise helper spring lobe. Early 70s models were the bulkier aluminum jobs like on a 1/1 Professional, but again sans the scissor.

Mark Shuda has this guitar for sale right now on the forum.
