Anyone added the sound of one or more contact mics on the soundboard of a PSG, to the sound of the regular PU? For amplification on stage or for recording?
I did test the effects of "increased body-tone and natural reverb" back in the 90s, using a studio mixer and one contact mic, and was quite happy with what I could make out of the combo by placing the contact mic in the right places along the soundboard of my Dekley. Didn't find, or set aside time to build, a dedicated mixer in a small package back then though, so noted it down as an interesting experiment.
The experiment did make me tend to use less electronic effects and attempt to get more on the instrument's own body-tone through the PU. By now I have pretty much fully exploited the "intentionally microphonic PU", and still like to amplify more body-tone at times. So, back to the mixed-in contact mic.
Anyone have any experience with the use of contact mics on PSGs they'd like to share? |

Wouldn't a contact mic pick up mainly lots and lots and lots of mechanical noise? |

What Per said. This has been discussed here before and the consensus among those who have tried is that it doesn`t work because of the mechanical noise.
I have and use a piezo pup on two lap steels,though... _________________ Olli Haavisto

Per, Olli, you may be right. Mechanical noise wasn't disturbing when recording that particular PSG, but it is different and it may not work at all on most other PSGs. |

I already have the PU rigged to be microphonic, but it is in "the wrong place" for the intended effect. |
