Who are they? Nice backup. Especially who's on PSG?
I listened to samples on amazon.com; I'll probably get the album, but there were no notes available on the session players.
Thanks for any info.

You're welcome. I actually have allmusic.com bookmarked with an icon on my bookmark bar. I love the site and visit often. I am usually more interested in who played on the CD than the artist. The backup musicians make the artist what they are (both in the studio and live). _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I'll keep that in mind. This is the 2nd time I've asked for session players when I could've gone to allmusic but didn't know about it. |

Lot's of musicians...Would have rather heard a lot less viola's and other junk in the background. Great musicians though but dang, where's the old days when you only needed about six or seven to complete an album.

When you're an Idol winner, there's a lot of $$$ behind you. I have only heard the 1 song he has out. Over orchestration can kill any good country song though. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . It's a veritable cornucopia of the usual suspects. Keeping Nashville employed, one Idol winner at a time …. |

It's the typical Music City method of operation today. A good looking, good country singing young man who became the winner of American Idol by being country. He was voted winner by millions that liked him as he was. Now the Nashville machine is going to tell the world that they didn't really like what they had heard, although they voted Scotty the winner. Now Nshville powers are going to show us what we really want to hear.....That's why there is no more Classic Country in Nashville. When you have people like Steve Moore, CEO of the CMA who are in power, it isn't going to change. Steve Moore started out with ZZ Top and went on to promote rock for about thirty years. He is a rock trumpet player and now is the head of our Country Music Assn. All the more reason to support our petition.... http://www.petitiononline.com/Dave1234/petition.html

And, I trimmed that list down. You should have seen all the composers, AR people, stylists and others listed. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I go way back so I'm with the bunch that would rather hear him with psg, fiddle, bass, lead and rhythym.
But Scotty's voice does it for me. I never watched Idol but my wife did so I was shocked when I heard him singing; I had to sit down and listen. So I listened more as the show went on and was glad to hear him sing. My biggest worry about him? The Nashville suits would probably ruin him. The album is too slick, but I'm hooked on his voice and the backup is at least not intrusive enough to turn me away.
He sort of reminds me of the old Charley Pride with the deep baritone, like on the old Panther Hall Live recording. Him, Ernest Tubb, and a few others give me that feeling like someone is drawing a bow across my spine and playing me.
Just my opinion though.

No doubt about it

I seen several people compare him to Josh Turner.
I need to listen to some more of his stuff.
And I guess there is some young honey that was also on Idol that he is supposed to be dating and had her sing with him (on the album I think) that is also supposed to be pretty good. Don't remember her name off hand.
EDIT: Her name is Lauren Alaina. HERE is a YouTube video of them doing a duet on "I Told You So". Not as good as Carrie and Randy, but still not bad.
And, I listened to the 30 second previews for his album and didn't hear any of the orchestra parts. I'll see if I can hear the full songs somewhere. I'm curious to see what the Nashville machine came up with. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
