Who played steel on Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" ?
Those fills are hauntingly beautiful - and really make the song the true classic that it is.
Thanks - |

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

We still don't know who played on "Angel." Reece is in the movie, (I seem to recall he was playing his sunburst "The Universal,") but that doesn't mean he played on the recording. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

If I recall correctly, Reece was playing with Johnny Gimble in one of the early scenes set at a party. |

Ok, this is drivin' me nuts, so I dug out my Honeysuckle Rose album which doesn't have much on it in the way of credits. Then I played the cut on the album, which doesn't have any steel on it. Then I remembered the cut gettin' all the airplay back in '80 did have steel, that's why I had to go buy the 45, which I had the record store clerk play to make sure it was the right one before I bought it. And, sorry, I still can't answer the original question. But it sure has been fun tryin'. By the way, the 45 says it was taken from "The Orignal Motion Picture Soundtrack HONEYSUCKLE ROSE". Were there 2 albums released, because my album says IT'S the original, also. |

Ok, I just checked my LP's and I don't have it any more. BUT, I remember the credit was to Tom Morrell because I also remember how un-Tom Morrell it sounded to me.
I could be wrong but I don't think so...... _________________ Bill Cunningham
