Hello! I live in Calgary, Canada. I'm really excited to be a member of the SGF (and just as much to even have found a community like this). I've dreamed for over 15 years of the day when I would own a pedal steel. At 17 I recall listening to an Alan Jackson song on the home stereo (we grew up on Country) and I just realized what I was hearing: it was a steel guitar. I begged my mother to buy me one, but she thought they were noisy, and, of course, they were expensive.
I turned 33 in August and am happy to say I've owned my first pedal steel for 6 weeks now. I jumped all over the opportunity to buy a Link II psg from a close friend who picked it up on a deal. I paid for it a week before I got to pick it up, and called (what I thought was) the Linkon office in Winnipeg to find out more about my new steel. To my surprise, Wayne Link answered the phone and we got to chat for about 15 minutes. After I picked up the guitar the next weekend I called Wayne back and found out a little more about this particular model, it's circa 1980, I think what is called a 'push-pull' system, 3x4 and it's probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and heard. My second Canadian-made guitar (I also have a beautiful Larivee acoustic out of Vancouver).

Looks like a modern "All-Pull" from the picture though - not a "Push-Pull". |

Welcome Aaron. That black axe will be fun to play in a dimly lit room; however, it is a nice looking machine.
I just returned from Alberta a few days ago where I did a charity gig for a stutterer's self help group and a fellow by the name of Andy Chaplin has a steel much like yours but not in black. He is also a fairly new beginner.
You will get wealth of information from this forum; however, many of these guys are a bit blunt with their answering your questions but they do know what they are talking about so don't take things personally; take everything as a valuable lesson from the experts. |

Welcome Aaron! With a Linkon you can't go wrong. Wayne builds good guitars. He is also a great guy to talk to, gain knowledge from and have as a friend.
If you ever get as far east as Ontario, you will have to stop by. Steelers are always welcome - automatic friends!

Hey, these fret markers are really made by a canadian and only a canadian could understand their meaning. They are the symbols that adorn canadian coins: maple leaf for a penny, beaver for a nickel, boat (Bluenose) for a dime and a deer for a quarter. Well thought indeed!
That guitar looks pretty nice!

All you have to do is call Wayne to realize what a great guy he is but I'm sure you already know that. Enjoy your new Linkon steel guitar Aaron...that guitar is a beauty,eh. It is indeed a whole new world and this site is an incredible resource. Check out Doug Beaumier, Mike Neer and Greg Cutshaw (www.gregcutshaw.com) in the tablature section. | Aaron, if you wish to see a live steel player playing, come visit me down at the Black Diamond Hotel, almost every Saturday nite, from 8-12pm. I host a jam there and get to play lots. Will be gone Oct. 15 and 22nd., but usually there every week. Introduce yourself and I'd be glad to talk steel with you. |

Hi John!
Thanks for the invitation, I will absolutely come down! It won't be until the end of the month though, I have a couple busy weekends with the family. I gigged on bass for the last few years with a group out of Rocky Mountain House, and we only ever got to play with a steel player once, his name is Blair, he's out of Red Deer. There is nothing better on stage than tasty steel guitar

| Nice to see a new Canadian forum member. I once had a nice S-10 blue Linkon. Sold it to generate enough funds to move to a new Steel. Wish I could have kept it though, it was so easy to play and had great sound and Wayne is such a nice guy to deal with or just give advise. Terry |
