Can anyone direct me to where I can get one or two replacement baskets for the old, original series Black Widow, 1501-4ohm? The magnet is flat and has the spider web logo.

Also, can I put a 1501-4 ohm basket on a 1502 magnet; all of this old vintage?

I actually have two of these old speakers; the 1501 is blown, and the 1502 works but I don't like the tone.

I understand Peavey doesn't make these baskets anymore, so I'm hoping someone knows of a stash of these somewhere.

I have a nearly new 1504-4 basket I would take $40 plus shipping for. It was the replacment for a bass speaker.

Thanks David, but I don't want a bass speaker basket.

Roger: Is this a replacement basket? Do you have a part number for it, or any other markings that might shed some light on it?

I doubt it will work for me, as my magnets are 30 plus years old, and you believe this basket is 8-10 years old. I understand that the old magnets have to have old style baskets to work properly. But it's worth asking a few questions.

Thanks. Paul

Paul, there is one number on sticker above the bar code that reads 00027020 1501-4 SB RB. There is a number written with magic marker 209270 all on the origanal peavey box. This is a basket i ordered because i allredy had the magnet. Sorry i dont have anymore info than that. I think the magnets i had did'nt have any stickers they were just plain with the rubber ring

Roger: You have a replacement basket for a 1501 shallow basket, 4 ohm. That's a real good speaker for steel guitar. Many, including me, would say it's the best of the Black Widows. But my understanding is that replacement basket won't work on the original or first series Black Widows, which is what I have. Thanks for checking. Paul

Paul, I posted this link in the Electronics area a few months ago. You might call them and see if they can recone your basket.

Jerry: I just got off the phone with the folks at Backstage/Richmond Sound. Their website says they can recone BW baskets for a fraction of the price of a new Peavey basket. Sounded real good to me.

But on the phone they said they don't recone Peavey baskets. They offered to sell me a new basket for $104.99, and the baskets are back-ordered from Peavey and won't be available until November.

Plus they didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I mentioned the differences between the original series BWs and the newer series.

This is getting frustrating. Somebody has to have the basket(s) I need.

Good Luck finding the original baskets. Scarce as hen's teeth. I went to a local Peavey dealer late 80's, early 90's and bought all the spider speakers and baskets he had. I've since used them all save for 2 or 3 complete speaker assy's. Sorry, no spares.

BTW, I asked Mike Brown about the cone stamping numbers. He told me they weren't any help determining the era of production.

There's a very slim possibility that you may get lucky and have a more recent basket fit your old magnet, but it's risky and all tedious trial and error.

Sorry about the recone lead, Paul! Their wording is misleading.
How did your speaker fail? Did the foam from the back of the magnet pulverize and melt in the gap? I'v seen that happen a few times and have had good luck in cleaning off the residue from the voice coil, usually on the inside, and cleaning out the magnet. The speaker usually works fine after that. As long as thevoice coil is still good!

It is my understanding that none of the newer baskets will work on the old spider web magnets. Something about a difference in the width of the voice coil gap.
