The first BIGSBY w/pedals that I ever saw, had the cyclinders that pushed UP, in the area of the tuning pegs, to change the string pitch.

In fact, when I rec'd mine, it didn't have those, there, and I immediately jumped to the wrongful conclusion that some old guy in Downey, Calif., had stiffed my on my newly acquired 1956 quad with six pedals. I ask you, what was a brand new high school 'graduate' expected to know about the real world and its moment to moment progress?

By chance, do any of you Bigsby owners have a guitar from that model era that you might be willing to share photo's of? Could you raise more than one string or were they all single string pushes? Did you have 'lowers' as well?

THANKS...........

I have had two Bigsbys with the plungers. I only have one now. I got it from the original owner, Wally Olfert. He played in the Christian Cowboys with Eschol Cosby. His guitar has tw pedals and twoindividual plungers. The other guitar, which will remain nameless, did two changes with one plunger and one with the other. I also have the first DALAND and it has the plungers Shot Jackson put on when the guitar was built in August 1954. Don Davis,Hank Garland, Ray Butts and Shot Jackson did those DALANDS.

Wally Olfert , which is July something 1951 has two plungers, but Ray, one raises the second and the other lowers the fourth on the center of three necks.

of getting you, Chris, to show some photo's of the plungers for both single and multiple string tone changes?

I for one would surely be grateful to you. It's been a long time since I saw that apparatus and I'm sure it would be benficial toward the education of others here on the SGF.

How about it? Anyone else as interested as I am?

By the way, I just reread what I wrote above. It does make sense. Wally Olfert has an A pedal that lowers string four and the B pedal raises string three. I do not know why I said string two.

I can't thank you enough for your prompt and graphic response however, what I'm anxious to see is the early day "CYLINDER" thingies that were located within the tuning peg area of the g'tar. How they worked; how they were rigged; etc.

Ray:
If you have not already read the book, pick up "The Story of Paul Bigsby" by Andy Babiuk. It is worthwhile and has many pictures, etc. etc. in it.

Here is my Wally Olfert from 1951. In another post I will show the plunger parts from a 1950 I used to have. Then I will show the plungers on the first DALAND which is August 1954.

In another thread (Bigsby bars, I think) I will put the photo of the swirls Bigsby used on 1956 necks. Coincidentally, one of my Bigsbys is a 1956 so has the swirls, or jeweled necks.

Here are more plunger parts for a Bigsby that were off the necks for cleanup.
These are from a 1950 Double neck I used to have. From these photos you can see how they work and how they tune. When a single plunger pushes up on two string pushers, the plunger pushes up on a piece of aluminum that bridges the two string pushers.

Awesome Chris, those are the first pictures I've seen of a Daland. How come Hank Garland was involved? I mean, I know he knew and was friends with Don and Shot but I've never heard of him being involved with steel playing? Anyway, this here I guess is Don Davis with a Daland:
