Hi all, one of my two Bud Trees has been dead for at least 10 years when it fried on me in the middle of a gig (in the middle of a tour.) I had it rebuilt at the time in Chicago by a fellow who said he was familiar with them, but it only lasted one or two more gigs and blew up again. Since then I have taken it to a couple of different techs who have all declined to take on the project - most recently I was told that the circuit board was toasted and would need to be replaced & the amp (power section) rebuilt from the ground up. Now I'm not really a tech but it doesn't look to me like there's really that much inside of these things, although I don't know if some of the parts would be hard to come by.
But for the moment I'm either looking for a lead on someone who does know these amps and wouldn't be intimidated by the prospect of resurrecting mine, or maybe another dead one to horse-trade for in the hopes of salvaging some parts from it, perhaps even a working power amp unit??
I would dearly love to have a working pair. . . |

you might try ken fox here on the forum...he is a tube amp expert...if he cant fix it he might know who can

| have you talked with the guys at inner sound here in pdx? a couple of them are musicians with more than a passing familiarity with guitar amps, if they can get a schematic they can make it work right. |

ron..the sho-bud xmas trees are solid state amps.
i had one years ago and actually wish i still had it. jbl d130...but it always had a slight fuzzy edge i couldn't determine if it was the amp or speaker. |

Thanks guys for the suggestions & the schematic! I'll give them a try, I know Joel & he's a great guy.
Neither of mine came to me with their original JBL, but I do have a Standel S-15 (which I had been trying to sell. . ) which is basically supposed to be a knock-off of the D-130 so maybe I'll give that a try if I get it going. I have a Weber in my other one, which is pretty nice, a little "sweet" sounding - good for medium volume gigs, also that amp works really well for lap steel & guitar. |
