Check out this old clip. It appears that Buddy Emmons plays his solo on his C6th neck and doesn't hit a pedal or knee lever. And Roger Miller sits down in a chair to enjoy the solo. Sweet!

No thumb pick, too.
I don't think Buddy used a lot of pedals on his solos unless he was playing chord solos, or some of those extreme chromatic octave jumping licks. I can't say that with certainty, though.
If you haven't seen it, I transcribed Buddy's solo on John Hartford's "Gentle On My Mind" one night, just minutes after I heard it, that's how much I loved it. He begins with a lick that he repeats in the Roger Miller video, too. Here is a link to that transcription with an audio clip:

I've seen Buddy at St Louis one year playing a two or three neck Fender non pedal and then they blindfolded him and he never missed a lick.
Four Wheel Drive was originally done, I think, without pedals. |

Jack, the solo was mostly without pedals except for a few of the chords he plays and the crazy lick he plays in his first chorus right before the bridge. A real masterpiece.

I find it sufficiently difficult to play in tune when I have my eyes opened, thank you very much.

Sound like E9th to me. Notice on the fade out that Buddy press pedal 2 and 3. Did you notice that Buddy is playing a Sho-Bud Professional and that the tone is much darker then he normally uses. My guess is that he playing Curly Chalker,s guitar and amp and didn't want to mess with his settings. Curly guitar setup has E9th on the back neck and he uses the Day setup. If I'm right Buddy pulls it off really well and that's why Roger is smiling.

He plays E9 throughout the tune, but switches to the C6 neck for the solo.

Maybe it's my old eyes, but I didn't see a guitar cord. Is it possible that he was "pick syncing"?

| Remember, Buddy started out and played professionally before pedals became popular. Also, the 8 string C6 (or C13 if you prefer) tuning was prevalent in the 50's, so Buddy didn't need pedals on that neck. |

Even though it is pre-recorded, Buddy is playing pretty faithfully to the track. No pedals used in that solo anyway.
