For sale: 2008 Asher Style 1 Hawaiian Guitar. After 35 years of playing guitar, I wanted to start playing lap steel. In an impulse buy, I bought this amazing koa Asher. I now realize that I need to get a Dobro (for my band) and can probably settle for a starter Weissenborn copy. So I need to free up cash from the Asher.

I bought this guitar from Elderly Instruments, so I decided to show the photos they took. Also, here’s the description from Elderly:

EC+, a very fine tribute to the classic Weissenborn guitars of the 1920's, solid koa top, back & sides, Weissenborn style body with hollow neck, lacquer finish, 19-fret koa fingerboard with dot inlays and diamond inlay on the 12th fret, maple bridge with metal saddle, 1-15/16" nut width, 2-3/16" string spacing at bridge, 24.9" scale, 15-1/4" lower bout, 2-3/8" to 2-3/4" body depth, Gotoh vintage-style tuners with butterbean buttons, label reads "Commemorative Weissenborn / Hourglass Style 1 #22", label signed by Bill Asher, this guitar is extremely light with a rich, huge sound! Nice example of the quality guitars Bill builds. Cedar Creek Custom OHSC (purple lining).

New, these guitars are $3,975. I am offering this for sale for $2,950 plus shipping. The only thing I might consider in a trade deal is a Julian Tubb Resonator.

Gang:

I also posted this guitar on The Gear Page. Bill Asher is a member and posted this reply yesterday. You've got to check it out -- particularly the fact that he said he'd transfer the warranty to the new owner:

"Bill Asher here giving two thumbs up on the lightly used Asher Commemorative Weissenborn Syle 1.

Man, that price at $2950 is a great deal! I build these to the exact specs of a 1930's Weissenborn but with more time spent on cleanly shaping and tap tuning the braces. I use the "christmas tree" bridge plate design that Herman went to for better top stability around the bridge are, and it really works.

The build is light weight for that true vintage sounding tone...I would say in a blind-fold test you could not pick out a difference from a 1930 Style 1.
With materials, basic shop time labor, the Nitro lacquer finish, and $300 custom made Cedar Creek case, my cost to build these guitars is just over $2000. Someone looking for an Asher or a vintage Weissenborn should really snap this on up! I am so confident in the build of these guitars I will also be happy to transfer the factory warranty to the new owner!

Best Regard to TGP members,
Bill Asher"
