Sica 15" 250W 4-ohm speaker with ultra-lightweight neodymium magnet. Model PL15B25S.
With the flurry of new 15" speakers for sale recently (Sica, Eminence), I wonder if the demand has been a little saturated. But there must still be some steelers who want a good speaker that also shaves 5 or 10 pounds off of the weight of their amps.
I hadn't used my old Webb amp in many years, and recently decided to take it to an outdoor gig. I was worried about blowing the JBL D130F, so I bought this SICA speaker from Ken Fox. I understood that the Sica had less highs than a JBL but I didn't think I would mind that.
The SICA sounded smooth, solid and punchy, and I was amazed at its light weight! But I found that I missed the JBL's extra sizzle on the high end after all. I guess one person's ice-pick treble is another person's sizzle. If my amp had been a Peavey, with stronger tone controls, I'd probably keep the speaker. (My Webb has relatively gentle EQ.)
The Sica is by no means devoid of treble. (Any modern bass speaker needs to have decent high end for bass popping and slapping, 6-string basses, etc.) But the JBL is unusually bright, with treble response up to 6000 Hz - higher than the Sica (or Black Widow, or Eminence neo, according to specs) - and I missed that extra edge. So now the JBL is back in the Webb, and my Sica is for sale, since I don't have any other 15" amps to try it in.
The speaker was only played for one gig and is in essentially new condition with the original box. If you've been on the fence about trying one, here's your chance to satisfy your curiosity inexpensively.
$120, and I'll pay shipping to lower 48.
