Hi Ron,
it is not the software, the DAW as it's called (Digital Audio Workstation), but in this case the interface.
If you record with the whole band at the same time, you need at least an 8 in/out interface, better 16 in/out.
The more calculationpower your PC or Mac has, the smoother it works.
An alternative is Reaper software, I believe $30.00
(I work with Cubase 5, will update to 6, and it's worth every buck!)
A 'good'interface for it's price is this:
http://tascam.com/product/us-1800/
about $300 including cubase light software!!
Please talk to people that record, before you gonna buy software, hardware etc......
take care,
Johan |

thankyou, however i am only looking for advice/feedback on Cubase 5 we're happy with our interface, if anyone knows of a good source for it please let me know, i have looked at ebay and most of the software sites , ebay has a few of them but after investigation i think they are mostly bootleg copies and we want to stay above board with our system, the new version cubase 6 is everywhere but we are interested in cubase 5 _________________ MSA S12 Classic XL 5/5

+1 on Reaper. You could spend what - $500 for Cubase if you like, or you could spend $60 for the same functionality in Reaper.
I'm not kidding. Been there, done both, switched and never looked back. |

I fooled around a lot with Cubase 4 that was bundled with my Yamaha XS-8, but since acquiring a MacBook, PT 9, I've discarded the Cubase in favor of PT. The only drawback I see (and it's not a biggie) is that Cubase/Yamaha provide a FireWire driver, while with PT I have to use USB, but that's plenty fast enough for everything I've tried.
Not sure if that helps, but I find that a standard set of software is better than what ever catches my eye or is bundled. |

I have a Cubase studio 4 that I will sell for $200.00 or trade for a band in a box. Must have all the manuals.
The Cubase is just too complicated for me.
