If you registered your hardware, you should be able to download a fresh installation from the Avid website. Good luck!

I would contact Avid support and beg...I doubt you are the first person on the planet to do this...I believe all current versions must be registered before you can unlock them for use. In the scheme of the things, maybe not a bad idea.

The Ilok key I believe is for the later versions, when you get a package, it comes with the Ilok authorization key . Once you register at Avids website you can download a few more Avid programs ( free) for Pro-Tools ,the authorizations are loaded onto the Ilok key.

I do not know when they started the ILok thing but I have been running ver 8 for over a year and it came with the ILok key.

The IloK key needs to be plugged into a USB port for the software to run.

t

PS. And yes you can load PT on other PC's but you will need the original Ilok key for operation.

PT8 used the iLok key. I had a 30 day "trial" version and had to register it with iLok. (I already had the iLok key as I used it with my Antares).

(I use Sonar).

I have PT8, it uses the Ilok key.

first hand knowledge here...

Can't say about earlier than PT8. I have read numerous installation issues with regard to the Ilok key on forums ..

My only comment to them would be they didn't follow the instructions exactly as printed. The first line of the installation process is

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY AS WRITTEN

I took me 10 minutes to load and authorize PT8

that's all I got...
