Stormy, Maple (as I understand it- I'm not real knowledgeable about this,) is a very bright sounding wood, and again, to the best of my understanding, plain hard rock maple actually has more resonance than the more highly figured variety. Mahogany is said to have a deeper, darker sound. Supposedly it is the combination of the 2 woods that make Les Pauls so special. Hence my question about a mahogany/maple steel. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Mike using disimilar woods/veneers is definitely a plan I'll be looking at too, as I got some nice old Honduran mahoghany in the trade too and some oak, and wenge. So fun, fun, fun.....Stormy |

Jim your guitar is really beautiful, and it is almost as pretty as the one in my house, and probably plays as well as mine too. The Infinity has to be the best steel I've ever played. The mechanics and craftmanship are second to none. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Frank and Mark did a great job !!!!! _________________ Zum d10-11, Infinity D 10, NV112,NV400, line 6 pod xt, Gretsch Country Gentleman[1967] Telonics VP. Telonics pickups 1956 Gibson EBO Bass |

That's one lovely steel! Congrats, Jim, I'll come visit your new horn one day soon. I'm hankering for a new knee lever anyway.

This guitar is unbelievable.. Sat behind it yesterday and this thing sounds sooo beautiful, plays sweeter than any guitar I have ever played... I have had 3 franklins that played superb!.. The pedal and knee lever action on this guitar feels PERFECT! Also has the new telonics pickups on it which are really thick and clear sounding...very meaty! Jim is installing the new blade/pole pieces pickup on my new emmons today..
Congrats Frank and you too Jim! Frank, will you take a post dated check around 7/1/2015? Great work by a great guy for a great friend. |

Hey everyone - thanks for your very kind comments.
Kevin, your credit is good with me anytime.
Mike, I have considered using different woods in the butcher block process I am doing on the bodies. I have found this process does strengthen the body and helps with sound consistancy. Thanks again,
Frank |

[quote]Mike wrote-How do you suppose a guitar built like a Les Paul with a mahogany cabinet and a maple veneer, or perhaps a thicker slab on the front apron, would sound
Hi Mike, I would be very concerned about cabinet drop with a mahogany guitar. Yes it's a very tonal wood, but really quite a soft hardwood.
Just an interesting side note- Did you know balsa wood is technicaly a(hardwood) ?

i shudder to think of what a d10 9+8 would cost, though i'd love to have one...maybe in 5 shades of aqua/turquoise.....maybe with some yellow and purple accents...
you know, maybe frank should just supply all california steel players over 60 with a complimentary guitar.we'll take the rest of the country by storm...it will be a real statement!
how is the weight on the infinity? |

I think for the over 60 crowd he'd have to change the name of the steel to INFIRMITY! I'm getting there by the day....

You hear that Frank? Now you have to make a balsa wood guitar. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Mike can you say cabinet drop
As Frank will agree and many others experimental stuff costs lots more than the cost of a real product.
Many of these things have been tried and it is good for all of us to ask if it has ever been tried before.
and "if it ain't broke don't (EVEN) try to fix it
Great lookin steel there Jim I keep looking at it
Good job Frank (and Mark)
