Hi all, just been watching a few videos on You tube of the Kingsmen Quartet from the late 80's early 90's, with plenty of nice steel playing by the group's multi-talented musician, Gary Dillard, on his sky blue Emmons D10. Just curious, I wondered whether someone might know if he is still playing, he played great Dobro, Harmonica, Banjo also.

Gary was a great player and a good friend. We bumped into each other out on the road from time to time. I talked to him a while back. He is living in Ashville (I believe) North Carolina. Not playing except at home and has had a career, for many years, in the medical field. Hope that helps.

Wow, thanks for the kind words. Jack, great seeing your post, and you are correct...somewhat. I am close to Asheville, about 50 miles (80.5 km) west. And yes, I just pick around in my office...about once or twice a year! haha, thats it...nothing more. After 19 yrs on the road, I went to college and got me some education (LOL!) and yes I'm in the medical field. Traveling the USA constantly with my job.

I haven't posted on this site in forever, but like a lot of people just check-in from time to time...and saw this post.

Hey Jack...tonight I'm in Henderson, KY...I am sure you know where that is!!!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies, it's great to hear from you all. I appreciate it.
I am still pretty new to the steel (2 years), and have learned a lot by listening to recordings of you guys playing.

Jack Thank you for your help here, I appreciate it, and great that you and Gary know each other well. As a side-line, I recently purchased a copy of the LP 100 Miles Out'a Nashville, and loved your playing on there with the guys from the Happy Goodman Band, what a great album!

Chris, The Kingsmen really were an excellent group, with amazing talent, got to be one of my favorites also!
Gary, you are welcome. I'm glad that you checked in, And to hear you are still playing every once in a while. Are you right in the mountains where you live? It looks to be a beautiful part of the world from the pictures I've seen of the area. My brother has traveled over there, and said it was nice country. I trust that your work as a traveling doctor is going very well for you, was nice to hear you were in that field of work, and wish you all the best. It's been great watching those videos of when you were playing with the Kingsmen Quartet. That Emmons sounded pretty good too!

Wish all you guys the very best from us here in New Zealand.

Marcus Smile
