Topic: where can you buy the Fender tweed? |

I have a Vibrosonic head that's home made, no covering. Good job, but my Rick Johnson cab is coverd with the yellowish tweed. Where can you buy that tweed tolex? Anybody got any used? As long as it's in good shape, not bad discolored or torn. Let me know what you got. Just enough to cover the Vibro head. Thanks

If I were you, I'd send the cabinet to Rick and let him recover it. Unless you're a whiz at that sort of thing, Rick would do you a good job.
He just built me an extension speaker cabinet to match my Webb amp and Leann Sharp made me a couple of covers for the amp and the extension speaker. |

Thanks guys. Erv, I'm sure not a wiz at putting tolex on an amp head, but my green-backs are running low. I think I could make it look decent. Maybe.

| Terry...Erv makes a strong point. Fender Tweed tolex runs around $30.00 a yard (a yard being 64" wide, so obviously you will have quite a bit of material left over), plus shipping costs of approximately $10.00 to $12.00. It may be worth your while to obtain an estimate. |

Thanks guys. I found a 36" x54" piece on ebay for $16 + $10 shipping. Ain't bad, and I don't think it would take any more than that. I probly will ask Rick what he would charge me to cover the head. I may get him to make me another 15" cab, just depends on what the one 15" speaker sounds like after I get it put in. If I decide I'd rather have dual speakers, and I can get ahold of a few more bucks, I'll probly just take the chasis out of the head and send it to Rick and let him cover the head while he's making my other cab. Let me see, what else do I have that I can sell?

I think you are on the right track.
I bought a tweed Fender Blues Jr. a while back and Rick built me an extension speaker enclosure that perfectly matched it. |

There is a lot of waste using tweed.
I like to keep the stripe running
in the same direction. Looking from the sides
or rear or top, I like the pattern to
run from about the 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock
or lower left to upper right direction.
