I have a Vibrosonic head, and a 15" cab with a K-130 8 ohm. I won't receive my speaker till Monday, so I have no idea what it's gonna sound like. Will the one cab be sufficent for tone, or would a dual cab set-up be a lot better? If dual speakers would sound a lot better, then I can be lookin for another cab and speaker. This is my first ever, Fender head with cab. Forgot to say that I'm playing a 73 round front Sho-bud pro II with two hole pullers, and an 84 model Sho-bud pro II. I'd appreciate you fender tube amp steel players advice.

I find that a single speaker is best. That way you can guarantee that there is absolutely no phase cancellation of any kind. _________________ Milkmansound.com |

I would go with a single 8ohm speaker.
I have a Vibrosonic and happen to have a K120 in a 2x12 cab, but usually only use one speaker. |

Terry, I also have a Vibrosonic ('73) that I had Rick Johnson build me a set of split cabs. I have a 15" 8 ohm speaker installed in the separate speaker cab, and it sounds good to me. The nice thing about having split cabs, you can mix and match various speakers as long as you keep the 8 ohm (or higher) load correct.
I have considered at some point building an additional speaker cab set up with two 12" speakers, which would essentially make it a Twin Reverb. I'm told the '73 Vibrosonic and Twin were using identical amps, with the only difference being the sinlge 15" vs two 12" speakers. Not sure if that is true or not, and not sure if it would apply to all 85 watt Vibrosonics or not.

I may not sound good, I just don't wanna sound bad. |

Thanks Tim, Pete and Chuck. I reckon I'll just wait till I get the speaker in, take it to the Church and see what she sounds like. Then I can decide whether or not I want to try another cab. Would you guys mind sharing your settings on your Vibrosonic? I'd appreciate it very much. like I said, this is my very first tube amp for steel. I think Bill told me this was a 76-77 model Vibro. I think he said the sticker said 100 watts.
thanks again

Terry, I have mine set with treble, mid, and bass all set around 5, and tweaked them slightly (half or two numbers) from there. It seemed that when I went to the Vibrosonic, the tone settings weren't necessarily so critical like they seem to be when I use the NV400. Having them basically in the middle of the range was a good starting point, and then I nudged them a bit each direction till it sounded good to me. I also add a little reverb. Not sure that will help a lot, but that is what I noticed when I started using it.
