Hi folks! New to the boards, and new to the instrument. Figured learning to play was cheaper than a motorcycle (and possibly less dangerous) if I was going to have a mid-life crisis
I picked up a Dickerson in what I think is pretty darn good shape. One of the gears on the tuner is stripped - otherwise I wouldn't have to do anything other than replace the knobs - all the electronics are good, and the MOTS is in excellent shape. Went ahead and pulled the old strings off and thought I'd give it a good cleaning before putting new ones on. Any suggestions on what to use to clean this old beast? Also, without spending a fortune, how about new tuners - recommendations?
Now to find a working Dickerson MOTS amp. Now that would be sweet!

Dickerson was what Joaquin Murphey started with. I picked one up back around 1987.

Congrats on the Dickerson. I have one and it's great. If it just needs buttons you can get replacements from Stew Mac or Elderly's. If the gears are stripped (mine were) you can replace them with the 3 in line Klusons without drilling any holes.
(Good luck on your amp hunt. Mine came with a matching amp but it needs work) _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

Having the matching amp is cool, but it will likely sound great through a tube amp of around 15 watts with a 12 inch speaker, like a Valco made National or Supro/Oahu etc.
Stewmac tuners would save some work, and yours do need some help.. |
