Just a quick note. I was considering building two cases for my pedal Steel. I was looking at the Manufacturer's case to decide how to pad the steel case. Then on second thought, the case I have is already good for the steel. I just want to have it lighter by several pounds. So it is my intention to make a case for the pedal bar, legs and rods. For one thing it doesn't have to be as good a case as the steel case. Just something to do a good job for the pedal bar, legs and rods. I thought I might pass the idea along to the rest of the forum members and see where it goes. I should have my case completed in a couple weeks. I'll put up a few pictures for encouragement.
Until that time. al

Al, I bought a padded soft gun case for $10 at a gun shop and it holds my pedal bar, legs and rods. Much lighter.

I had a friend that has a cabinet shop to cut my case down that only the body of the guitar fits in it. carry everything else in a bag with a shoulder strap. What a difference. And being smaller very easy to load on a auto, bus, truck, etc. Also about four years ago when I bought my NV-112 I made an Alabama road case for it that is PERFECT for the price of a roll of duct tape. The amp came in a sturdy cardboard box,I cut the bottom out, turned it over and cut a slot for the handle, covered it neatly with two coats of black duct tape, for several years it has been riding in pickups,in the belly of a Silver Eagle, still looks great and protects the amp MUCH better than one of those 50 dollar soft covers. Two amps I had before both had knobs broken because of those soft covers,My NV-112 still look like new.YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

I am in the process of building a new "light weight" two piece case set. I had a two piece that I built from mostly 1/2" plywood (top and bottom were 3/8") and covered with carpet. Only problem it was still heavy and the steel case weighed 23 lbs.

The new cases are 3/8" Birch plywood, covered with Tolex on the outside and crushed velour on the inside. I have the steel case done and it's 15.8 lbs, and a noticeable difference in weight with the steel in the case. I'm working on the smaller case for the pedal bar/legs/rods now and should have it by the weekend.

Here is a picture of the steel case.
