Anybody know? It's very low key and 'Lloyd Green'ish, but I don't think it's Lloyd. Paul? Bruce? Mike Johnson?

btw Terry Crisp sounds great, and so does Paul Franklin on "You've Got A Lover." Definitely reminds me of Lloyd Green! |

| Thanks Kyle. I thought that it was Paul on 'You've Got A Lover', but the tone was a little different than his usual. Maybe this is one of the first recordings out that he did with his new Little Walter amp. |

It's great to hear recordings like this with such minimal instrumentation (acoustic bass, minimal drums, acoustic guitar, mando, fiddle) where the steel can have a 'full spectrum' presence, rather that being this shrill part trying to be heard above the 3 acoustic and 4 electric rhythm guitars, bass, drums, 7 tracks of percussion, 4 keyboard tracks, 3 overdubbed lead guitar tracks, strings, 5 tracks of harmony vocals, not to mention the lead singer, who needs to have his autotuned vocals be mixed twice as loud as all the other tracks combined.

Interesting that even Paul stuck to playing Lloyd's parts quite exactly throughout. That's certainly what I've always tried to do on You've Got a Lover--some things are so perfect it makes no sense to mess with them.
(Or is it just that that's what Ricky wanted Paul to do?) |

Does the new Skaggs CD have a cut on it with the Whites called. I Wouldn't Change you if I Could?
I heard part of it the other nite. I assumed it was Tommy White. However I heard Terry get a similar tone.
BTW. Anyone want to offer up the link to the site where it tells who played on what?

Great CD. This album was originally sold through Cracker Barrel stores 2 or 3 years ago and was called "The High Notes".
If you buy High Notes used on Amazon you get an extra tune with it:

Luckily the iTunes download includes a PDF of the actual CD booklet! Skaggs lists each musician and which tracks he played on, including himself. I'm blown away by how much RS still sounds like his old recordings (vox and instruments).

| Kyle...I will pass along the greetings to Steve. He is doing great and out somewhre in the USA playing steel with a Warner Bros. act called The Dirt Drifters as we speak (or type). As for the "Highway and Heartaches" album, to me that album was one of those musical touchstones that will always be a source of enjoyment and inspiration. Both Lloyd and Bruce, as well as the whole band, brought a sense of excitement and purpose to the music that I still feel when I listen to it. |

I played on "You Got A Lover" on the older Cracker Barrel CD. I was asked to copy the record.....I used an old 60's Deluxe amp.....I would guess that Tommy and Terry are on the rest........
