This
Turned into this
over the past few months.
Ken asked me to do a total refurbushment of his much loved Sho-Bud Pro III custom as he felt it was tired and overdue some TLC having stood him well for 1000s of gigs and recordings over the past forty years.
He recorded a track the other night when he got it back to which I've stitched a little show of the work in progress and put it on the steel on the web section here
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=209165
On the closing stages of the work I used Tom Bradshaw's replacement fretboards and would like to thank him publicly here for his product and speedy service, thank you Tom. |

Mike Cass did a complete "make over" of my 75PP Emmons a few years back, so I know how Ken felt when he got his guitar back. I wish I had such a nice set of photo's of the work being done on my guitar.

I have always been envious of the colour and finish of your sunburst MSA. Mark Giles did a wonderful job on that guitar.
I am absolutely delighted with mine. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Telonics TCA-500, Webb 614-E, |

The guitar is actually in better condition than it was in 1976, when I got it new. The metal parts are now highly polished, when they weren't originally. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. What a great job! Were the top face of the necks bead blasted like Emmons does? I like it lots! I have a 1976 that while its original, could use a makeover |

You are very observant. The cast alloy necks that Sho-Bud produced were never perfect no matter how much polishing was carried out. Bob jewelled the tops of the necks as per Emmons guitars, and we have kept the sides shiny. I prefer that look now, but was initially uncertain which way to go with it. Bob talked me into it, thank goodness. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. For its years your girl has certainly retained much of the original green colour. A lot of the guys on this forum don't particularly like the Pro III but I think it is a great guitar if you can get one pre pot metal. All of my guitars have metal necks. I had a Sho~Bud Pro II D12 with wooden necks, and while it sounded good, it was no better than my Pro III. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator.
