It's tough to pin Sho-Bud down exactly but '75 is about when they switched.
Round front ProIII's are very rare...you usually see round front ProII's.
I think I've only seen one round front ProIII. |

well I have a Pro IIIround front .So does this mean it is rare. I am dont want to sale it i just want to learn more about it.The pedals are not the small one and not the large. They are in between the two. And it has gumby key stock.8 pedals and 4 knee.it was black but been refurbished to a very nice blonde birds eye. Thank You!

Actually I know exactly because I bought the first SB Pro-III to land in one of Sho-Bud's larger volume dealers (Metro Music in Richmond Va, see my Gone Home post under Ray Garrett) and it was a black round front version with metal necks and 8+4 and had the wide foot pedals. While I can not target the exact date I purchased the guitar, I am 99% sure it was sometime in late 74. I am pretty sure Metro Music received a few more round front, black Pro-III's after mine arrived but it was not too long after that, the new guitars had square fronts and then shortly after that they had smaller pedals. Since I never saw any round front Pro-III's that were not black my assumption at the time was that Sho-Bud was using up some already made round front bodies that did not have as interesting a wood pattern which is why they painted them all black, I don't know this for a fact of course maybe PF Sr or some others may have more insight on this?
Dan, about the pedal size, I have only seen large and small from Sho-Bud, my guess, and it is only a guess, is that if you have something in between then it was a owner made modification not something available from the factory---but this is just a guess, I am no Sho-Bud expert! |

| Ray, the round fronts are like the old Professionals (anything prior to about 75) with the top front of the cabinet apron rounded, taking the edge off. |
