I liked when he teamed up with the great Hammond B3 innovator Jimmy Smith. Add in a little tenor sax, and that was some great stuff. |

Kenny Burrell is a national treasure. As many of you know, he has been the Chair of the UCLA Jazz Studies department for some time. I was lucky enough to attend/monitor his class on Ellington, he's a wonderful educator because he was THERE and worked with Duke. I have seen him at Catalina's and also at Royce Hall (what a venue!) doing a duet with Anthony Wilson. Some folks don't realize he also sings really well-check out his CD "Lucky So And So" |

Thanks so much Crowbear! I was just lamenting my impending 60th. Look at Kenny at 80! That video took me right back to an inspired starboard tack into where my own muses may lead me. Kenny has always been an inspiration....even more so now!
God Bless him. |

Kenny's the coolest - even Jimi Hendrix argued that he was just trying to sound like KB. I have always thought that Kenny has been closer to the center of mainstream jazz guitar since the 50s than anybody I can think of - and no jazz guitarist gets down on a blues better than him. I hope he has many, many more years to ply his craft. |
