Fireworks will be continuing from the 4th of July to our show on the 5th of August here in Gulfport, Mississippi. DSSGA stage will be pretty hot!
Really excited that Hank Corwin will be back in the steel guitar saddle and on our stage. Joe Wright will light up the entire deep south area. Ivan Reddington will cool us all off with his exquisite musical technique when he pilots us all off to the Hawaiian Islands. Our list of players is always expanding and this will be published in the coming days. Bob Saxton will keep us all in order. He will have a special show also.
Hotel/Motel rooms are now available. A list will be published soon with this information.
You may contact me via email for assistance also.
Our players list is forming up. Please contact me as soon as possible for inclusion on the program.
Hank Corwin will be in my home on July 5th for a "practice" session and if you are in the area, please know you are most welcome to be here too. (The practice will be for my benefit, not Hanks). Even after his five year layoff, he plays more than most of us can dream about.

So Far it looks like I'll have some time off the whole month of August, so I'll be there with bells on, maybe some britches too. Can't wait.

WOW, the list is impressive folks. Thanks Howard and Billy and Hal. Looking forward to a good time for all.
Billy, I will have a display booth set up for you to show off that new steel. Wish you all the success in the world in that dealership.
And I just have to say a few words about our show on December 2nd. Laney Hicks will be in the house along with Russ. AND, one of the very best steel players in the world-Howard White-will be one of our main features along with Dewitt Scott. (Scotty and I talked about this up coming show while we were at teh Illinois show and he will check his schedule to arrange to be here with us then). Hope that will work out. With Scotty and Howard and hopefully Ivan Reddington, we just have to have a Jerry Byrd appreciation day again and again.
Thanks for all this wonderful support.

Jim, you are one of our best supporters and players so come here with your thumb pick hot to help us really welcome Hank Corwin back into the steel guitar world. This will be a special show for all of us and all in the audience who love steel guitar music.
And to break up the monotony of steel guitars all day long, Bob Saxton will give us a special program during the day.
Let me know, Jim, if you have a special time frame for consideration. Thanks again.

Bill,
I'm looking forward to being at the show August 5. Looks like it is already shaping up to be another humdinger. I talked with Clayton "Punkin" Parker yesterday and he promised if his health would allow, that he would load his fiddle/violin and ride down with me. Punkin and Paul Phillips played twin fiddles with Jimmy Swan for years. I know most of the players in this part of the country have played with Punkin at one time or another and will enjoy sharing the bandstand with him again. This is gonna be a good'un.

It is so good to have all this wonderful support from all you great players and friends. Our shows keep getting better mainly for that reason too.
Winston, tell Punkin Parker it will be so good to see and hear him again. Has been too long since we played together. We will have a great staff band with him and Bob Saxton, Ben O'Dell, Wayne Goff and just maybe we can have Hank Corwin on piano whenever he is not on stage with his steel. Could not get any better than than. AND, Lynn Owsley is working his schedule to allow him to be here if at all possible. Not quite sure of that yet. Will keep you all posted. Everyone wants to really welcome Hank Corwin back into the steel guitar world.
Buck Grantham and Mitzie will be here on stage and in the house too. More to come so just stand by..

"MORE TO COME" ????????????????

Billy,,,,,,, Ain't nobody could come up with "MORE TO COME" (adding to this list)

The excitement building to all the shows Bill Stafford puts together just kinda puts me back on my heels. The list is always like the "EVEREADY BATTERY BUNNY". It just keeps going, and going.

I'm gonna have to rattle ole Wayne Goff's cage, (to get his attention) and make sure Ms Linda will turn him loose long enough for the show. She's always interested in turning him out, ever so often, so she can clean the cage. "THE BOY'S A WILD MAN" !!!

It's always great to see and hear all the super pickers at the Gulfport shows.

Billy Carr gonna show off his new "GITTAR" and from what I hear, it is a beauty, and sounds awesome !!! Course it does with Billy at the controls.

We missed you Hal at the last one and really looking forward to seeing you then. You get that "CARTER" all shined up !! I'm gonna put you to work.

MEANING: With our scheduling guy's permission, (Bill Stafford), The August show will be the debut of the "BEN O'DELL" show, and Hal,,,,you've been elected one of da steel players (the other 2 to be announced). That band will consist of: Wayne Goff (drums), 3 steel players (to be announced), Van Zirkle (one fine keyboard player), 2 "FANTASTIC" gittar pickers (to be announced), a fiddle player (to be announced, Harmonica player (to be announced).

Now to make this a little more interesting, A BASS PLAYER (to be announced)and a DINNY-MITE girl singer (to be announced).

And Buck Grantham, this time, I'll break out that pretty new "ROSEWOOD" I have been bringing to the last 3 shows and leaving in the case all day.

All them, "TO BE ANNOUNCED" folks am-a gonna be a big shock. The song list, (3 songs) also to be announced. AND,,,,, to the scheduling guy, DO NOT SCHEDULE THE "BEN O'DELL" show after Laney Hicks. Ain't nobody around what can follow that act.

Can hardly wait to hear Russ Hicks, backing the "STAR" in his family. Gotta say for sure, "OLE RUSS MARRIED UP", and ya'll don't want to miss Laney's show. AND,,,, she's so PURTY !!!!!!!

Afore I get out of here, just one more thing to add. Jim Parker, get them pedals all greased up !!!!!!

OH YEAH !!!!! R.J. BRANG THE DOZER !!!!!!!

I'll update the situation as it becomes medically necessary or if I see something in Billy's scheduling that might be hazardous to your health (OTHER THAN "THE BEN O'DELL SHOW).

See what I mean folks. This event grows all by itself without any help from me. All you guys and gals just "wanna have fun"-and that is the absolute best.
Ben, being President of DSSGA, has any time slot he desires. But the request of his to not follow Laney in our December 2 good time show will be looked at later on.
Sounds like THE BEN O'DELL show is finally here. Been waiting for him to strike and I thank him in advance for one of the steel chairs in his band. (That way I get to sit on my hands and listen).
Ellis Olsen, who has recently brought us more paying members, will have a rival to Ben's program too. Much to consider on this program welcoming Hank Corwin.
Again, as a friendly reminder, Hank will be at my home this coming Wednesday during the day time. All are welcome. Just call and let me know how much meat I need for the grill -if we can break away from listening to Hank practice. He says he needs a lot of practice, but we all know much better than that.

Ben, I mis-read your post. Please forgive me for thinking I had been selected as a filler in one of your steel chairs.(I promise to practice more to qualify for that chair in the future). Read it too fast. Glad you have selected Hal. It will be so good to have him hear again. Now I can really sit on my hands and be proud of all you guys..Will be a great time folks. The character of our steel shows is good entertainment, good friends and wonderful times all afternoon. It just grows that way because of all you great players and friends.
Thanks, and with Winston and his new left handed Fessenden, we are all in for a real treat and good times. (Winston will play either right or left handed, makes no difference to him at all). Big Will Stewart is in house too and this is just another amazing player we have in our fold at DSSGA. Waiting to hear from Danny Harrell and Royce Tarver-two more very special players, supporters and friends.

MY,,,,,, MY,,,,,, Bill !!!

You mis-read the post again. Whut I said wuz,

"GONNA BE 3 STEEL PLAYERS" on the stage. Hal gonna be one of them, QUOTE: THE OTHERS TO BE ANNOUNCED !!!!

Now take that to mean: There's gonna be three steel players on stage at all times during "THE BEN O"DELL SHOW".

Maybe 3 for each song and change out, maybe same 3 for entire show, maybe I may have taken a lesson from my old friend Jeff Newman, and remembered how to control who plays when. JUST MAYBE !!!!!

Let's put it like this. YO NAME AIN'T OUT OF THE HAT !!! You ain't gonna get that lucky.

Remember that now,,,,,, 3 Steel Players AT ALL TIMES. WHO ?????? WHEN ????????

THATS:
WHO PLAYS ??,,,,,, and,,,,,WHO PLAYS WHEN ??

Gonna kinda resemble a skeet shoot. We gonna have some fun !!!

Ya'll have a good 4th and I might want to fill in some of the blanks after the holiday.

Ms. Lana

Sure hope you can make this one. It's gonna be a real "BARN BURNER". AND I DON'T MEAN A/C problems either. We are really looking forward to a great show,, with the crowd to match.

There will be some kinda fool-duggery going on during the "Ben O'Dell" show. (That's pirate slang for a MESS) It would be great to have Ms. Lana helping with the M/C chores.

Shoot,,,,, we might even raffle off Bill Stafford's van while he ain't looking.

I can reveal to you, one, and only one little tip bout whats gonna happen during the "BEN O'DELL show. There will be something happening during the show, that will be talked about for quite some time.

Having Hal Higgins kick off the show, (with the other 2 unannounced steel players) is gonna start the ball rollin. From then on,,, it's just gonna be a fun time.

Try and get yo pretty self down here.

Looks like ole Ben is back up and running on all cylinders. Glad there is a fire station across the street from the looks of all his plans, it just might be needed. Ben is one of the best entertainers on this coast and it seems like he has it in gear for this show.
Here is a list of motel/hotels:
Best Western Seaway Inn: 228 864 0050
Hampton Inn: 228 868 3300
Imperial Palace Casino:228 436 3000 Biloxi
Holiday Inn Express: 228 864 7222
Holiday Inn: 228 868 8200
Sun Suites: 228 214 0320
All are located by the I-10 Gulfport Hiway 49 exit and just a short distance to the VFW on Dedeaus Rd.
The Sun Suites have complete kitchen facilities and run just a little cheaper than the hotel/motels. Imperial Palace is in Biloxi about fifteen miles away. The Palace is off the I-10/110 Biloxi exit.
Looking forward to everything ole Ben has been cooking up.
And I am really excited about Hank Corwin being in my home tomorrow-plus a few friends too. We will have our cookout tomorrow instead of today to celebrate the fourth and Hank's "return" to our steel guitar world.
Thanks again for all this wonderful support, and Ms Lana your purple bed room is waiting.

Just received confirmation that none other than the great David Easley will be on stage with us. Getting better all the time folks.
He is probably the busiest steel guitarist in the world and we are most fortunate that he will give us his time and talents. Thanks David, you are most appreciated.
Now, ole Ben will really have a hard time selecting those other two chairs. HO HO HO!

Ben, after spending a whole day with Hank Corwin, you must remove my straw out of that bottle. I really discovered what I thought I knew after watching closely and hearing Hank play-and that is I only need about fifty five more years of eight hours a day practice to play properly. So, until then, I just don't feel qualified to be a steel guitar player. And to top that off, he is just a swell guy. So glad he is now in our area. Lets give him a REALLY, REALLY big Deep South WELCOME on Aug. 5th. Thanks!
(I will help with the depletion of your pickle supply though).

Man !!!!! That sounds great Bill. Hate I couldn't be there to hear that. But we'll get the chance in Aug. Sounds like we are in for a big treat.

I'll see how many jars of them pickles Ms. Mickey will let me out the door with. I had in mind to use them for bait !!! She opened a jar the other night and we wrestled each other down for the teeth.

Still no reply from Sir Buck.

Getting closer tho. Gonna be a GOOD-UN.

Come on down here Larry Moore and see all the fun !!!!!
