Hello, all!

I've joined this forum in the hopes of gathering information on and potentially finding a buyer for two pedal steel guitars on my mom's behalf.

My dad passed away almost four years ago and left the guitars with my mom. She has been storing them all this time, not quite knowing what to do with them. This year she was diagnosed with Stage III Endometrial Cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy. The bills are piling up and we're trying to see if we can raise money with any of my dad's old equipment (which includes fishing and hunting equipment, if anyone is so inclined).

My dad kept these two guitars in the basement (in the cases, off of the floor) for at least the last fifteen years, I'm not sure the last time they were used before that. I admit that I know next to nothing about pedal steel guitars. I've been contacting stores around the country looking for information for the last few days and came across this Forum and decided if anyone would be able to help us, it's you folks. What follows is a combination of information I've received in response to my inquiries.

One is a Zane Beck with an unusual configuration of 12 strings, 9 pedals and no knee levers.

The other is a Fender model 400 with an "archaic" mechanism. This guy's case is also covered in some pretty rad orange felt.

I have several photographs of both (in the case, not assembled) - they're in the responses below!

My mom also has an amp, but I don't have any information or photos of that quite yet.

If you have any thoughts or insights, I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you!

I just spent fifteen minutes attempting to upload the photos but I'm not sure I've done it right. I'm going to contact the website and get some support. Stay tuned...

Thanks to B0b for his help with loading the pictures! Here are the photos I have of the Zane Beck. I'm going to shrink the Fender photos and upload them next.

katie...your steels are a fairly early ZB 12 string. great sounding and looking steel and a fender 400 single neck 8 string steel which had an earlier cable pulling mechanism. looks to be good condition for a 60's or early 70's steel.

these both have value to those players who like these particular older models. i'll let someone else give you some ideas about that.
certain more modern steels bring a little higher price to the working musician, but yours are very cool and shouldn't be sold too cheaply. the ZB over $1000 and the fender a lttle under..or?

65' or 66' model on the ZB. Cant give an exact date without the serial number. Zane moved the company to Scranton, Ark. in August of 66'. Great looking ZB and looks like its in nice shape too!!!

Dave Zirbel might have a taste for the ZB, being that it is an S-12 and work it into a 5 X 5. Nice and early too. Very Happy

Gentlemen:

Thank you so much for taking the time to check these out. My mom will be so excited to learn that we might be able to get some real money for these and I'm pretty happy to have found a place where people so clearly LOVE these instruments. I can't officially offer them for sale without letting her know first, but if anyone has actual interest, please let me know and I'll pass your info along.

Thanks, again - God bless.
