I was fortunate to see Ray Price and the Cherokee Cowboys yesterday at the Georgia Mountain Fair. All I can say is WOW!
Joe Wright opened the show. He is a great talent.
The Cherokee Cowboys took the stage. Mike Cass on GFI. Four fiddle players - including Buddy Speicher. Ray Price, at 80 years old, was magnificent! He sang non-stop for 60 minutes, took a break and let the 10 piece band do their thing. Mike was show cased a few times as were other members of the Cowboys. Ray returned and did another 20 minutes and two encores. I'm still buzzing from the show.
If you get a chance to see Ray and Mike and Buddy and Joe, do it. You won't be sorry.

I was there too and it was great show. Can't be described much better than the above post. Ray was as great as ever. Mike Cass did a great job and so did Joe Wright. The show was well worth the time and effort it took to get there. Be sure to see them when the are in your area. You won't be sorry. |

Did Joe use the Cherokee Cowboys for backup or did he have his own band? If the latter, who was in it? And how were they received? Did he play Hendrix? |

Joe didn't use the Cherokee Cowboys. He had some friends from Nashville as a back up band. Not sure of the the names but they did a fine job. The band consisted of Piano, Bass, Guitar & Drums. It was a good show and he was well received. |

Joe brought the guys (Tim Smith-Bass, Rob Smith-guitar, piano and drums -names escape me) who have played on his recording projects.
No Hendrix. You wouldn't wanna do that here. He only went out far enough to do a Clapton tune on the evening show when I was there.
He went over great. In the end, he got a standing ovation from a 3/4 full house. A little over 2200 folks probably.

The drummer with Joe Wright was Ray Von Rotz,
good show. I also really enjoyed the Ray Price show. Excellent arrangements. |

Ray will also be in Las Vegas in Oct. this year at the Santa Fe Station Casino. I saw him there earlier this year and he was great. Since I work there I get to see him free, but even if I had to pay it would be worth it. |
