Andrew:
Thanks for posting the photo. I am trying to identify the Ballroom. It's possibly the Pavalon at the Huntington Beach, Ca. Pier or the Bostonia down by San Diego. I think this was 1948 or 1949. Dickie McBride was playing stand up Bass and the Girl on the right was possibly his wife Laura Lee Owens McBride. Also, to the left of the Accordian player it looks like Sammy Masters. I don't remeber seeing this photo before. Could you E-mail me a copy.
Thanks,
Billy T. |

It does look like a young Sammy Masters, I like what he's wearing, sets him apart from the band, but I'm guessing this is before he toured with the group?

Billy, and anyone else after a copy.. if you right click and you get an option box, pick Large in the view option and when the larger version opens, then you can right click on the photo and choose "save image as".
It depends what sort of browser you are using, before I switched to firefox, it used to be simpler to save images from flickr.
Nice post AB.

Hi Billy,
It's great to find you on the forum! I'm writing a biography on Ferlin Husky and I understand he played with Ole's band for a brief period when he was still known as Terry Preston. Was that during your years with the group? |

Scott:
Yes, I was on the Rsmussen Band during the time Ferlin Husky (then know as Terry Preston) was in the Band as a vocalist and Stand Up Bass player. As I understood it he was waiting for his Contract with Four-Star-Records to run out so he could record with Capitol. He was a very talented and unpredictable character and was well liked. I have posted some stories about him in the "Stories" section of the Forum under the title of "Early Ferlin Husky (AKA Terry Preston) I will give this post a BUMP to bring it back to the top for you. |
