I'm trolling for potential interest in trading my Sho~Bud for a guitar that would suit my needs better. I have absolutely NO business with a C6 neck (some might question whether I have any business with an E9 neck... ), plus, the weight of this guitar is becoming an issue for me. The "elegant" solution for me would be to buy a second steel, but since I only play it at church, it's hard to justify.
The guitar is a first year round front Pro-II with wide pedals and a gumby keyhead. Barrels behind two-hole pullers, 8x4, original pickups on both necks. I've never been even slightly tempted to change the pickups. Aside from a couple of minor issues, the guitar is in very good condition. Low mileage on this guitar, and it is cosmetically and mechanically sound. It tunes good, plays good and sounds killer. It sustains forever. It has a standard Emmons copedent, with the E lower on RKL.
The issues with this guitar are things that would be nothing for someone who knows what he's doing to correct. The 1st string raise on LKR and the 2nd string lower on RKR come up short. I don't know how to adjust the travel, and opted to leave it alone for fear of making matters worse. The other issue is the C6 fretboard needs to be replaced. I intended to change both over to white ones, but never got around to it. The case is original and in excellent condition.
Here are some pics Ricky Davis took when he added two KLs for me:
It's not squeaky clean as shown in the pics when Ricky got done with it (but don't tell Ricky... ). But you can see that it cleans up great, and hasn't been around cigarette smoke, etc. All in all this is a great Sho~Bud, and I have real reservations about parting with it. I haven't decided for sure that I will. But a mica SD10 would meet my needs better. I wouldn't trade this guitar for just any SD10. A Rains or an Emmons, and possibly some others, would get serious consideration on my part. I would also consider an S10, if it were the right one. I can provide more pics of my guitar upon request.
Thanks for looking. _________________ Johnny Thomasson

wow...that's a beauty, Johnny! Ever consider just removing the c-6 neck and replacing it with a pad? Probably saves you 20 lbs or so on weight, and you could always put it back if you plan on selling to someone who needs it in the future...right?
I don't play C6 either, and really have no interest in doing so, but these guitars have hella'tone! Very temping, but I love my S-10 Lamar and don't have the cash for a 2nd steel, especially a D-10 Someone is going to be very happy with this baby, though! _________________ Lamar S-10, Goodrich L10K VP, Carvin Vintage 16 all-tube amp, John Pearse Cryogenic steel tone bar, John Pearse strings. |

Thanks, Benjamin. I did give that some thought. I don't know exactly how much weight reduction that removing a keyhead, changer, 5 pedals (and linkages) and a neck would amount to, but I'm thinking I'd still have a pretty heavy guitar. I have a friend who has an LDG, and that puppy is pretty solid. And, since I'm a klutz when it comes to working on PSGs, I'd have to pay someone to take it off and then put it back on if I decided to sell it, so I'm thinking that's probably cost prohibitive.
But I really do hate to part with it, and if I can't work up a decent trade, I may do just that.
Thanks again, _________________ Johnny Thomasson |

Hey Johnny, that's a beauty for sure! I have a Pro II with aluminum necks, and it has that Sho-bud tone. But, like you, I don't play very much C6. If your's had a pad on the back and was about 15 lbs lighter, I'd be tempted to trade my Rains SD-10 for it. As long as it didn't lose that Sho-bud tone that is.

Johnny, you may want to consider a set of light weight split cases for that guitar with wheels and a spring handle on the body case for easy transport. They will drop your carry weight a solid 20 pounds by splitting the weight. That guitar is the Holy Grail of big bodied Sho-Bud tone. www.hattoncases.net.

Johnny,
That wood is to die for , Please do not think about doing any deconstruction of that guitar. Let someone pay you enough to get the S-10 of your dreams, but PLEASE do not change it. Man what a beauty. Get in touch with Chuck Back of Desert Rose Guitars, Chuck can build you the lightest and prettiest steel you could ever want, get an estimate from him and then sell your Bud, just my not so humble opinion. Good luck Johnny. _________________ Bill Bailey

Thanks, Bill. Let me put your mind at ease. I thought about that, but pretty quickly rejected the idea for several reasons. It wouldn't take enough weight off to make much of a difference, but mainly because I don't want to make a chop job out of a classic guitar. It's a beast to transport, but I've never wanted more when it comes to tone. Not very many people can say that. Just because I can't play C6 doesn't mean I don't respect the guitar the way it is.
You have my word that not a single screw will be removed from that guitar by me. Sorry if I caused you any concern. _________________ Johnny Thomasson |

Thank you Johnny!
I am glad you love those old Sho-Buds as I do. I spend most of my time on the forum druling over these steels. _________________ Bill Bailey

Several folks have inquired about an out right cash sale. I'd take $2000, plus shipping. Lower 48 only. PayPal OK. _________________ Johnny Thomasson

Hello Sho~Bud lovers,
I had Gary Carpenter fix the 2 errant pulls, so that is no longer an issue. The raises and lowers on LKR and RKR are working perfectly now thanks to Gary. I've had several offers on this guitar, some of which I'm still considering, but as of now it's still available. This is an exceptional Sho~Bud, set up and ready to play. I'm going to give it a few more days before I make a decision one way or the other and take it off the market. Here are some more pics I took this afternoon:
