I posted this in the "Steel On the Web" section yesterday and thought I would post it here also. I bought a Johnson resonator about 7 years ago and it has mostly just sat so I thought I would give it a try. I put a Lace Sensor pickup on it to see what it would sound like and it sounds pretty good but it loses a lot of the resonator sound. Check out the utube video I have of The Great Speckled Bird and let me know what you think. The tuning is Open E.
Thanks,
Mel Taylor

Nice job, Mel. What amp were you using? It sounded like you had a chorus of some sort going on as well. Those Lace pickups do "color" the sound of the instrument somewhat, but I find that the amp settings make a difference.

Hi Brad, thanks for watching and for your comments. I am using a Peavey Transtube 212 EFX amp and yes I am using a little bit of chorus and just a little bit of reverb.

I enjoyed it. The chorus shows up more than the reverb. If you listen to the very last note, as it decays it sounds like there's some phazing too.

For an encore you could do "Wild Side of Life" and then "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes." Very Happy

Hi Alan, thanks for your comments. I recently acquired this amp and I have got a lot to learn about it. After you commented about some phasing I took another look and now I'm really confused it seems I don't know what all I had going. I was trying to just use the knobs on the amp itself to get what I thought was just reverb and chorus and didn't pay any attention to the foot switch. The foot switch has 4 buttons on it: Button 1 on the far left is labeled Mode and EFX Select, button 2 moving right is labeled Preset 1 Channel, button 3 is labeled Preset 2 Modulation and button 4 is labeled Preset 3 Delay Reverb. Some of these was on so now I'm not sure what all I was using. At 69 years of age I don't think I'm savvy enough to figure all this technical stuff out.

I'm coming up to 66 and I have the same problem. There are so many parameters to set nowadays. I have to confess that I still use reel-to-reel 8-channel for a lot of things, even though I have a 24-channel hard disc recorder which comes with a thick manual and a two-hour training DVD. I find the hard disk recorder extremely confusing. Embarassed
