Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha) is one of the most famous of all Brazilian musicians. He was not only one of the greatest composers of samba and choro music, but also one of the great guitarists, too, playing with Carmen Miranda and her phenomenal band.
He are a few recordings of Garoto playing lap steel (he also plays tenor guitar on Tico Tico No Fuba, too). These tracks were recorded in 1943 for the Victor label. Enjoy one of Brazil's greatest!

well it definitely swings Mike
i'm always amazed when i hear the quality & class bands had back then considering the rather primal gear & recording techniques
today w: all the high steppin'gear & such we sound like a bunch of robots on the pedestrian beat
of course i don't mean steelers ! ![Winking](images/smiles/icon_winking.gif) |

Magic! Thanks for those Mike. Anyone who likes this type of music will enjoy the DVD Bananas Is My Business which is a sad but wonderful documentary of the life of Carmen Miranda. Fox Lorber FLV5025 When she was "discovered" by an American promoter she refused his offer unless he took her band as well. They were on stage with her in New York when America first became aware of "the girl in the tutti-fruiti hat," but you see those guys in her big production movie numbers too. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch.
