For what it's worth, I am watching Mike Johnson on CMT, and he is playing a black Mica Franklin. The other steel player is playing a black mica Emmons Push Pull. I don't know who he is. |

One of my favorite players
That show was probably a few years back
These days you most often see him playing a Show Pro or his push-pull Emmons.
I suspect he still has all three guitars. He sounds pretty much the same whatever guitar he plays -- GREAT. Great tone, great chops. _________________ Larry Bell - email: larry@larrybell.org - gigs - Home Page

Tony,it was a talent show, sort of like American Idol. It was a singing competition. A young guy wearing a black cowboy hat won the competition. I got in on the very end of the show, sorry I don't know the name of the show. Something about the Next Country Star or New Country Star or something like that. |

Theresa, just curious, but when would it not be possible to use his Franklin on live gigs? |

Mike uses a cartage company, so it depends on how many sessions he may have a week.
I don't want to make it sound like he doesn't play his other steels live. I think he uses all 3 when he can. |

Barry,
Can't speak for Mike......At the Station Inn I get asked where is such and such guitar so I'll explain what happens to me.....Last Thursday a total rig had to be driven to Canada for some Vince gigs. Since the band is travelling by air, trucking our stage gear was the only way. That specific gear doesn't come home until the end of the month......My Little Walter and yellow and red guitar is staying here in cartage for the sessions I have booked around a very intensive schedule this month. A completely different steel leaves with me for London to record the following week........A Little walter was also shipped to London last week for those sessions........Its a whirlwind sometimes trying to have all of the desired gear for the gig in the right place....I also have my preferences for specific types of gigs.....Paul |

Paul, at the risk of highjacking, what project are you doing in London? |

Mike told me at the Texas show he uses a Franklin on his sessions. I have noticed on the Country Reunion shows he plays a red Emmons. What a fantastic player and he has a great personality to boot. |

Theresa and Paul, thanks for your replies. I understand the cartage thing, but wasn't taking into account just how busy one can get up there in the ozone where players like you and Mike reside ... |

LOL?
I was giving Paul and Mike a compliment - ozone being a metaphor for the rarified atmosphere where in this case, only a relative few (like Paul and Mike) live … |
