Ernest Tubb's Record Shop in Nashville - Pete's Shobud and Standell Amp are on display in the back, near the stage. Quite a history to that place - they had some great shows back in the day with the folks we've all heard about.

Odd time for this to appear...Another of Pete's PSG's was/is located here in Macon, GA. at the Music Hall of Fame along with 30,000 other items of musical history.

It was announced yesterday the Hall will close as of June 12 2011. It was said the collection will be sent to the University of Georgia for storage. A rainy night in Georgia to be sure !! Sad Crying or Very sad Whoa!

Regards, Paul

Hey Paul. Macon was a pretty vibrant place in the day
and a lot of people recorded many hit songs there from what I understand.

Are there other significant instruments and memorabilia, etc.
going into storage at the university and do you think they can
preserve the good stuff?

Best wishes, Walter

Duane Marrs worked on that guitar before it went into that case.

Because Duane made sure that it was in perfect condition before it went into that case. That was what was requested of him. He was most likely the one that oiginally built it.

Where is the Sho-Bud Pete had that had that big nameplate on the front apron to cover up "Buddie Emmons?" Wasn't this Pete's first Sho-Bud, and was this the guitar that he named "Goldie?" Confused

I believe some of the earliest Sho-Buds were 8 & 9 string guitars.
I was at The Midnight Jamboree in May of 1963 & I seem to recall that Pete Drake was playing a D-9
Sho-Bud. Question

From Paul on an earlier Pete Drake thread.....
Franklin wrote:
There was only one guitar that Pete called "Old Goldie".......Its the crossover pictured on the cover of Guitar Player magazine.........Pete was given several Professionals and he never played any of them on a session....He did not like the way they sounded compared to "Goldie"...I actually hand delivered the Blue professional to him and most of them were stored underneath the acoustic piano at his studio, "Pete's Place".......His daughters ended up with the blue professional........While Pete was still with us he would not let anyone but Dad work on "Goldie".....Sho-Bud really wanted Pete playing a current model but they were never able to get him away from "Old Goldie"......John Drake continued many years after Dad was no longer at Sho-Bud to bring "Goldie" over to Dad for any adjustments it needed and then back it went to the studio.......After Pete's Death some of the many steels he owned but never played got sold and any conversions of "Old Goldie" if that ever happened would not have come from Pete......He was adamant about keeping "Old Goldie" in tact.............The steel's pictured on the fronts of his LP's were the ones he actually played........."Old Goldie" had gold plated everything and was a gift from Shot to Pete......Pete was not only in love with its sound in the studio, he loved the thought behind the gift from Shot........Paul

That's interesting and I don't doubt it, but the guitar in the picture seems to look exactly like the one in the case. I know Duane Marrs worked on that guitar before it went in there. Maybe that guitar was just promotional. I could really understand getting attached to just one guitar. Pete's tone was always classic. I loved it and his playing.

It's nice that the guitar is on display for all to see, but I agree with Billy, it is a shame that this wonderful guitar isn't being used as it was meant to be used. Does anyone know if they actually remove it from time to time to be played on a session? Wouldn't that be cool? Might be a good way to raise money for some needy cause. Take it out, record an album and donate the profits to needy kids or something. Who do we talk to about this? Very Happy

I think it's great that with all the other memorabilia from that era that a pedal steel guitar is included. There are many "old country" or "Nashville" displays around that do not include a pedal steel guitar.

Whether or not it's an actual Pete Drake steel is not really as important as the fact a steel is on display.

I was in the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Studios in Orlando back around 1997/98 and there was a D-10 Emmons on the wall and it was noted it belonged to JD Maness with Buck Owens but from what I remember JD said it wasn't one he played with Buck. But it's the same thing, it was great that a pedal steel guitar was even displayed in a Hard Rock Cafe.

I was at the ET Record Shop several times in the late 90's, early 00's. The guitar in the store then was not the one in Ralph's post. Duane was still alive at the time, so that guitar might have been at Duane's for the restorative work.

I believe the one I saw there was Goldie, pretty sure.

Anyhow, I ran across this YT clip of Pete and "Forever" on the talk box. Pretty neat huh? I don't recognize any of the players, but someone here likely will.

Wait, isn't that Floyd Cramer? I should know who the blonde lady is too, but can't place her.

That is not "Old Goldie"......Goldie was a Baldwin crossover...........He did not use all of the guitars he owned......The ET shop guitar is most likely one of those.

Yes, I understand that is not Old Goldie Paul. Perhaps I wasn't clear. I just ran across the video while looking for something else.

I was meaning that I'm pretty sure Goldie was in the ET Record Shop, at least for a while, at some point while I was visiting there a few years back, not these guitars pictured here. Smile
