Actually a 1995 Vibrasonic Reverb, likely similar to a twin re-issue. This amp has sat for quite a while, and just recently I re-tubed it, played it out on a job, it sounded fantastic. It has now started to make a low volume noise, not a 60 cycle hum, but a low volume sound like water running somewhere (I know odd description). Its not loud enough to prevent it from being used on the bandstand, but if it was to be miced, I think that would be an issue of white noise bleed. I took it apart and used alcohol on pin sockets and some blue shower as well, which initially made it worse, now its back to where it was before the cleaning. It makes the noise with nothing plugged in and the volume on 0. Any ideas on chasing down the noise ? Fiter caps? Even though the amp is 15+ years old, I suspect it has low hours.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Does it still make noise if you turn down the reverb ?

Yes. Unfortunately, from 1 to 5 on the reverb (usuable range) no change. If I crank the reverb to ten,(obviously that would never happen) it does increase a bit. Thanks Bob !!

Usually a tube (easiest fix), plate resistor, or electrolytic capacitor. *Age is not the true test of the proper function of an electrolytic capacitor. Be careful, high voltages present ...
Set both volumes to zero and see if the noise lessens or stops; that test could help you narrow the 'source area' of the problem. *New tubes can be faulty.
Happy hunting,
D

Thanks so much for the input. It does make the noise with all the controls set on 1, and nothing plugged in. I may try the tubes in another amp and maybe that could eliminate the tube as a problem. Thanks again, I`ll do some reading and see if I can figure out how to test any internal components.

Just a reminder Steve...try one tube at a time.
