Topic: Mullen G2 play as great as it looks? |

Yea, the new G2, from an engineering standpoint, looks like it's solid, smooth and fast! I am sure the tone is top-drawer also.
How would you describe the floor pedals in terms of feel? I have owned a ZUM, Derby and a LeGrande II, but now have an old BMI and looking to move back into a better steel. Of the ones I have owned before, the ZUM was my favorite.
Opinions welcome please. Is there a G2 near Statesboro, GA. (Atlanta, GA or even Jacksonville, FL)?

Billy, For what it's worth, I have been playing and selling Mullen guitars since 1984 and I have played every model they have ever made and the new G2 is in a class by itself. Not just because I sell them, but I like it better than any guitar of any brand I have ever played for tone, sustain, pedal action staying in tune, less cabinet drop and more. I sell these all the time and I have new ones coming in every two or three weeks. Of course, all of them are pre-sold. To give you an idea of how popular the Mullen G2 has become, at the Dallas show last March, there were more Mullen G2s played on the main stage than any other brand or model at the show. Yes, Mullen is still making lacquer finishes and I just received one for a customer a little over a month ago in a peacock blue and was beautiful. Mullen has a new system they are doing now that is the best I have ever seen in a lacquer guitar. I think they actually call it clear coat rather than lacquer but it is amazing.

| Billy, if you're ever in the Locust Grove area, stop in for a test drive. Of all of the models you mentioned, I would say the G2 compares best to the playability of the Zum. And not only can Mullen build a lacquer body, they can do a lacquer front apron and mica top and back. Let me know if you need a picture! |

What happened when I bought a G2? I started playing more often and more intensely than ever before. The other result... time flew and a month or so passed by before I signed on here to the forum again.
Prior to the G2, I would check into the forum like an addict to post about whatever or ask questions about things that I thought other folks might have the answers to. But whether I realized it or not, really it was always because I was looking for THEE guitar that would cure all of my woes, mechanically and comfort-wise.
The G2 will set you free. From there, the rest is up to you.

To answer the OP's question about pedal feel, honestly, I think that the Mullens I've playes are too soft in the pedal. I'm sure that this can be adjusted to give more feel, but they all come really light.
This must be due to the fact that they're just so well engineered. Everything is so smooth, aligned so well, and balanced that it kinda takes the feel out of the pedals.
I know, what I'm saying is weird: They're so good, they're too good.
I prefer a more direct feeling of stretching the strings. A Mullen is like playing air. one thing is for sure, they play fast and accurate, and the stops are to die for. Crisp as hell.
As for sound, I had a RP with Tru-Tones, and it was a real monster, loud, punchy, and sustain for days. I really enjoyed it's underlying tone as well. |

Gee, Mike, I wish I had a guitar like that. Wait a minute, I do have a guitar like that! In fact..... I have that guitar! Always wondered why you got rid of it, guess I have the answer.
I don't find it "too easy", I find it pretty effortless, which presents no problems at all. It's soured me on a couple of pretty nice guitars that don't play nearly as well though.
Interesting to note that the G2 is supposed to play even smoother and lighter than this one. Pretty impressive engineering and quality control.
