His vibrato reminds me of Indian female vocal stylings. |

Does anyone know anything about the steel guitar in the picture? I've never seen anything quite like it. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Most of those pics in the slide-show are in and around Sydney, Australia. Must be some connection, but I don't see it. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

As I recall Givson lap steels are or were made in India. I saw one a couple of years back in a music shop in Lyons, France which seemed to specialise in all manner of strange Eastern instruments. It was still there when I went back a year later.

Givson also makes electric mandolins (popular for Carnatic music), and probably guitars.. Obviously playing off the Gibson name, though the instruments I've seen have no resemblance to anything made by the Gibson company. |

Givson has a long history of instrument manufacture in India. As it says on the home page, "Beware of Imitation". The doubleneck Monarch Mr. Mallick is playing is a variation of the Monalisa-A six string model. It doesn't seem to be in production currently.
I wonder if Tutul Ganguly is related to noted Indian steel guitarist Sunil Ganguly?
Nice stuff - thanks for sharing! _________________ Bradβs Page of Steel
