Nothing beats a real Dobro. Every steel player should have one. It opened up new doors for me. |

I prefer the real deal, but sometimes, on a crowded, loud stage, it doesn't work that well. Then I switch to a Marrs "cat-can" lap-steel and run it thru the Goodrich Match-Bro. Works fairly well. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

The Goodrich MatchBro (out of production) is the best one. But, avoid the MatchBro II which is fixed and does not have any controls to adjust the dorbro sound. |

The Telonics Pre-1000 has a built in dobro simulator that works well and comes with a special dobro bar. Marvin |

Joseph- If you haven't tried the Fishman Aura stuff, check it out. I have the Jerry Douglas dobro pedal and it's great. It is designed to complement a real dobro fitted with a pickup, and it does that job very well. However, if you turn the "blend" knob all the way up (no natural signal and all simulated signal from the pedal), you can make a lap steel sound like a real dobro. I've used it with my pedal steel to get a really cool Ped-A-Bro sound. It has 16 different "images" so you can find the sound you like the best. They run about $250. Good luck with your search. -Kyle |

Brendan, what model Behringer pedal are you using and what settings are you happy with?

Greg it is an EQ700 .
If you look at that thread you will see 2 pix of pedals , I pretty much copied these .I don't have a great ear and am not one to sit there playing with settings till I get it "right" .Likewise with the Goodrich I never really know what is right . |

I also use the cheap Behringer eq pedal, but I've found a way to improve the sound. I found a Sharpie King size marker at a dollar store. It's an aluminum tube, about 3/4" in diameter. The shrink wrapped plastic label is easily removed. It gives a hollow, metallic sound. This works better than any thing I've tried.

I agree with Jack Stoner, the MatchBro is the best. However, I have a program on my Profex that is really good. I don't have need of it very often but it gets the job done. It was good enough to suit Daryle! I prefer the MatchBro over anything else I've tried. _________________ Whip Lashaway

The "Bro" setting on the Telonics Pre1000 is pretty close to the Matchbro - the trick being to use the Bro bar for either ! very versatile unit alround. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9
