Can anyone tell me about Fender steels? Are they easy to tune? Do they stay in tune. What about their sound tone? Are they easy to work on? Tell me about going from 10 strings down to 8. Any info would be helpful.

Tommy, if it would work out I might could pick it up. I live in SC.

David - all your questions are answered on the Fender Pedal Steel forum.

I have a 400 just about like this and it is definitely a magical instrument. They have their own tone and feel. Very different from either a 10 string more modern steel or from a lapsteel. A lot of people that used to own one say "I wish I hadn't sold it..."

This is an excellent price, I might add. I paid that same amount for a 1964 same model several years ago and mine was an excellent deal at the time.
