Has anyone replaced the lower springs on a Fender 400? Any recommendations for types of spring, ideal tension, etc? |

I replaced the lower springs on mine back when I first got it.
I just went to ACE Hardware and found the right size by trial and error (sorry I don't remember now).
The lowers then felt about the same as the raises.
Mine was a Fender 400 but one of these days I hope to find the D8 version. |

There's a manufacturer and part number B0B suggested over at the Fender Steel Forum: http://z8.invisionfree.com/Fender_Steel_Forum/index.php?showtopic=110 . Century Spring Part #80409.
I've had some trouble trying to order from the Century Spring site, and have recently been thinking about just trying out a few extension springs from local hardware stores. My Fender 400 is more hardware store parts than original at this point, anyway.
I wonder if anyone has ever modded a Fender cable guitar for adjustable tension on the lower springs, but I suppose that would be more work than just finding the correct springs. _________________ Fessenden SD-10, Long-Scale Fender 400, Short-Scale Fender 1000 |
