I don't know how much help I'd be, but I wouldn't mind swapping info. I'm working on rebuilding (not exactly restoring) a Miller myself. I hope to post some pics as the project nears completion.

Here's a preview. This Miller is a "student model" with an aluminum frame and a flat plank for a body. The aluminum neck, key head, body sides, and pedal bar are all black-crinkle paint. The "endplates" are actually raised areas of the body casting and were coarse brush-finished. I polished the endplates and key head.

The "maple" neck is actually the original aluminum covered with a veneer of sorts cut from the new birdseye plank I'm installing. The veneer is actually almost 1/8" thick and glued to the aluminum.

While the original plank top was flush with the edge of the aluminum frame, I've raised the new one up to expose the edge and show off the inlay banding.
