"101 Hot and Sassy Steel Licks". It really is a no frills, completely usable lick book. It contains every kind of lick that you could imagine, geared to the advanced-intermediate player, some real knuckle busters for sure..

I am a big believer in learning 4-6 note phrases all over the neck. I feel that armed with this kind of top of the guitar knowledge or vocabulary, you will not get lost. 101 Hot and Sassy Steel licks helps you as a player increase your steel guitar vocabulary and helps make you a more confident player.

There are no songs or long phrases to learn, just really cool stuff that you can add to what you already know. NOW AVAILABLE NOW AS A DOWNLOAD...!!

Downloaded, then discovered that all this stuff is tuned half tone up than normal tuning. Why one must waste time and retune his guitar every time before playing? Wasted money.

in lesson 93 there must be written strings 3,4,5 instead of 4,5,6. Started from the last lesson and found this mistake. But yes some of those licks are fun to play and useful.

I just reviewed Kevin's course and for $25 it is a fantastic deal. There is an abundance of very usable licks for any steel player to add to his/her arsenal.

Thanks Jim for the nice comments. I think there is a lot of great phrases there that are pretty tough to play that will build great right and left hand technique.

just got it.. playing through it a little.. nice phrases... too bad the PDF doesn't have the chords that these are played over...

Of course they can be played over more than one chord but it should would have been much nice to know what changes you were hearing under these lines...

Oh Well

Hey Josh, Thanks for your comments. I thought about doing that at the time but realized that there is a number of tonal centers (underlying chords) that these phrases could be played against. If a phrase looks and sounds like it is over a C chord, it will work differently over an Am and F and D and G but still work with maybe a couple of notes that rub a bit which is cool too. I really wanted the learner to experiment with this stuff and add the notes they need to to make it work in any of those relative keys. If the phrase I show spells Bd, you add a couple of connecting notes and it's a G phrase..

Yup... I know my theory... and understand that... but it is always good to see how the author is hearing and fitting it too.

Smile

Some good phrases on there!

Bob.. I probably should not have said 5-6 note phrases. For me in terms of study and being able to commit to memory..5-6 notes is my best practice. The phrases in the book are much longer than that.. Generally 10-30 note phrases, western swing, hot chicken picken and generally stuff that helps you connect pedals up and down positions.. and it's a download...
