A friend of mine had just sold a 1962 Fender 400 on Ebay. The buyers name is Bruce Hess from York, Pa. I played the instrument a bit and wrote the description for John. Some of you might have seen it on Ebay. The number of the sale is #300540178811.
The the description of the instrument was well documented. It was missing one foot pedal, one rod, two cables and the cover for the pickup. Couldn't get it much plainer than that. After Bruce Hess recieved the instrument he was satisfied and gave John a positive feedback. A short time later Bruce apparently discovered that you couldn't buy those parts at any old music store. It is a 1962 400. After discovering this and knowing that those parts were missing, he wanted to send the instrument back. Almost like Wal-Marts. Considering that the instrument was described so well and especially the missing parts, John felt that he should not accept the instrument. We all know the hassle it is to ship a 45 pound instrument and that is why we described it so well. PayPal put a hold on John's PayPal account for the $510.00. It was really a shock.
The reason I am telling you all of this is to save you some hassle if you sell instruments. Bruce seems to think that if you buy something all you have to do, if later you discover that you don't want it or can't sell it, is to file a complaint with PayPal and you will get your money back. Ebay and PayPal do not protect the seller. Everything that they do is for the buyer so be very careful. Bruce Hess's Ebay identity is "Nightrider1931BruceJ." He might be an honest man that has been mislead by some of his friends. Ebay is not Wal-Mart. If the item is described exactly right you should have no complaint knowing what you were getting. Bruce apparently is wanting to become a steel player but some steel player in or around York, Pa. apparently told him to send the instrument back. BEWARE....BEWARE. Save yourself some potential aggravation if you have a buyer with the above name and Ebay identity.

I sold an old Gibson Banjo to a man last year on e bay. I sent this guy 19 close up pictures in addition to the 9 or 10 I posted with the ad. I plainly told everything I knew about it. The Guy gets is about a week goes by he calls me and said he was not happy,I had posted a no refund simply because of people stealing the tone ring and giving a fake back, this guy then calls a cpl days afterwards and said it was broken, If it were broken shouldn't he have told me that from square one.
He ships it back to me BEFORE Fedex could inspect it!.
E Bay Refunded His money then took it out of my Pay Pal account,I got a broken banjo Back and I think he got the real tone ring and rim,then my money taken by Pay Pal and E Bay.... BEWARE!!. |

Ebay and PayPal have new rules that will cost you a lot if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. The buyer now has 45 days to return the item. The buyer really doesn't have to have an excuse. He/She can buy something from you with intentions of selling it and if they can't sell it before the 45 day's is up they can file a claim with PayPal and PayPal will put a hold on whatever the amount of the item was. Whatever you do, after selling an item and recieving your money through PayPal immediately take it out of PayPal and put it into a checking account that has nothing to do with your PayPal account. You can always start up a new PayPal account under another name......... I know that many people in the steel guitar business do a lot of buying and selling on Ebay. Watch your step. Actually, I think that Ebay is breaking many laws such as price fixing, monopoly, even forcing a seller or buyer to use their company, PayPal, for payment of items. As a seller you have to offer PayPal as a payment plan. I don't think it's very American like but who will ever stand up to them?
I hated to mention Bruce Hess's name in my original post but common sense will tell you that if you buy something knowing that it needs work and exactly what it needs, just because you cannot locate the part's is absolutely not an honest reason for returning it. Many people I know have totally quit Ebay because of Ebay's unfairness to the sellers. Like I said before.....BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE.

I sold an amp to a person , he says it arrived in a non working condition and filed a paypal claim . My funds were frozen I then escalated this claim to a dispute to try and get it resolved quickly .
Short version is paypal found in my favour and released my funds . I think escalating to dispute cost me money but I lost track and the outcome did nothing to satisfy me .
I agree , paypal is weighted way towards the buyer .
That you cannot actually talk to anyone at paypal or ebay can be very frustrating as well . |

Brendan.....If the buyer was absolutely in the wrong I would think that you might post their names so that some of us might be protected from the same thing happening to us. It's not hard to block a sellers Ebay ID so that they cannot bid on anything on your site. If you know who they are you can watch out for them.
