I had hoped to make it - expecially with JD there - but there was a lot going on in Portland this weekend and there was simply no escape. Perhaps next time....

I had a great time. I still cannot beleive I got to sit in the same room with JayDee Maness for three hours and ask him anything I wanted! I wanna thank the good people that put this together, I was truly inspired by the playing and the people I met. Earnest, I thought David Wright , Lee Lessig, and JayDee had some of the more innovative sounds. I havent seen much (if any) live pedal steel before this weekend but as a newcomer, I was surprised at how much the volume varied from player to player. Only JayDee, Larry Behm and that awesome strat player whose name escapes me ever seemed to be loud enough consistently to my ears. Crank those amps guys! but what do I know? Lotta great playing! From left to right, JayDee Maness, David Wright, Larry Behm and Duane Becker....cheers!

Earnest, as far as innovative, Jay Dee is right up there at the top, and we had great showcases from Frank Carter, David Wright, Larry Behm, Larry Chester, and I always enjoy hearing Dave Burton sing and play. Duane Becker

Wish I could have been there, must have been a great show. JD is very inventive, for example "Misty". I have not heard everyone there, but I think Dave is very original. I hear some Chalker in his playing, but he's a very exciting player in his own right, one of my favorites. I'd try to copy him if I could, but I'm not doing the hair thing.

Just to echo the sentiments posted above...a great jam on Saturday night, and special kudus to Jim Baughman, who is not only a stellar guitar player, but a nice, friendly gentleman to boot. I never cease to be amazed in our steel guitar family, how egos are checked at the door, and you can sit down and bs with your heroes like you've known them all along. Thanks to Duane Becker--I can't imagine how much work goes in to putting on an affair like that.

Thanks Will, and about what goes on behind the scenes of a thing like this is mind blowing. There are hundreds, and I mean hundreds of details that have to be worked out. Many little jobs that keep creeping up and you have to attend to them immediately!! I generally walked around in a high gear fog trying to keep the loose ends tied together. The jam days start at 6am and end at 12 midnight-and we are a small jam. At this point I could not even imagine running Scottys. All I can say is thanks to the great help and officers that we had helping with the Spokane show. Duane Becker

Duane, i thought the beginners jam was cool as hell too, thank you for that and all the other hard work you put in. I loved Duane's collection of stuff on display, man those LP's!...I wish they were still in print.
Not sure all these were Duanes or not but they sure are beautiful:

Duanes collection of cool stuff!

and perhaps the coolest album cover i have ever seen?

Thanks Ben, the pedal steels are mine and I had 3 more Sho-Buds plus my dads 5 non pedal Fender steels he had over the years at home that I did not bring. As far as the lps and other stuff, they are what I have been saving over the years. Duane Becker

Man, I also had a great time at this event. It was cool to meet some new steelers and especially to get to hear such great players as JayDee, David, Larry and Duane. I came home and hit my Tuesday night gig with some extra enthusiasm!

David Wright - my brother from a different mother - you are the bees knees, my man. Thanks so much for your support and for using your influence to help draw commitments from JayDee, Frank Carter, Big Jim Baron, your awesome guitar playing buddy, Jimmy Baughman and others to make the voyage up here to God's Country and help make this First Annual NWSGA SuperJam and success! I echo loudly all of the sentiments stated above by those who participated. I should have some additional pics to post soon after I figure out how to tone down Larry Behm's shirt and boots in Photoshop - I wouldn't want to burn out anybody's retinas :>) JJ
