A friend was taking his Grandfather's old Fisher HiFi apart, and came upon this speaker. Should he get it reconed? If so, anyone know of a good reconing service in New Jersey?

John, I'm not sure if they make great steel guitar speakers or not being they are stereo/hi-fi audio equipment. I have set of 15" Stromberg/Carlson Hi-fidelity speakers that my dad bought new for his "tube" stereo equip years ago. These things are loud, but 16 ohm. I had them reconed 8-ohm many years back with pedal steel in mind, but have not gotten any cabinets to try them out in.

They have a heavy chrome basket structure with purple cone and paper dist cap. They also have a paper tweeter assembly mounted out front across the 15" frame. My point is, I was at the same crossroads as yiou & kinda forget about them. Maybe your post will rejuvinate my quest in using them for pedal steel.
