Just came back from Banjo Jim's on avenue C on the lower east side of manhattan where I heard forumnite Raphael McGregor . He was playing with a trio and then with a larger Western Swing band.

Ralpael has a nice touch and took off with a uptempo version of Autumn Leaves and a nice version of Cherokee.

If you find yourself in manhattan on a monday night, they are doing a western thing at Banjo Jim's on monday. Attentive audience and good room.

Edited to add: nice original tune called, I think, central park west.

Thanks, Bill! Appreciate you stopping by and your kind words.

The tune "Central Park West" is actually a John Coltrane tune--wish I could take credit for it, it's a beautiful melody and set of changes!

Hope to see you there again, the next one is on May 2nd!

Beautiful tune. Didn't recognize it and I was all the way in the back sitting next to an idiot who wouldn't shut up, so I misheard. Smile

Pretty interesting venue.

Thanks! I should have mentioned, the band I played with at 9 is the drummer, Matt Meyer's, band. He and I, together with the bassist Danny Weller, are the backing band for Miss Tess, a great singer and guitarist.

The band you saw at 10 is Dennis Lichtman's Brain Cloud, we do Western swing and trad. We have a CD out that I'm really psyched about if you're curious, it's on Itunes, but hopefully you guys will come out and see us play again!

Raph, is a very good player and a very humble cat. The man keeps busy....
