Our male vocalist wants to do some Rex Allen Jr songs at our gigs. He has picked out three tunes and there is some great steel work in the songs. Did Rex Jr. have a regular road band or are his recordings with studio musicians. Below is one that I have to learn the steel work from. (The man has a beautiful voice)

His best known songs from the 1970s featured Pete Drake, Sonny Garrish, or Stu Basore.
Mostly Drake.
But I don't know about that particular recording. |

| Hi Les, I played piano for Rex back about 15 yrs ago and we never carried a steel player. I never did understand why, cause it ain't country unless it has steel in it! We still had a good 4 peace band (Arizona) but like I said, Country ain't Country unless it has steel in it! Your right thoough, I always enjoyed Rex's voice! |

Alvin, that would be much appreciated. We tried three different artist's version and our vocalist's voice is a hauntingly duplication of Rex Allen Jr.
Bye the way, we are a knock off band so we try to get as close as possible to the original recording.

i did a one week stint at mr. lucky's in the 70's.
we backed up rex on the weekend. he was very nice and very good. |
